Macs at Tap Tap

[Tap Tap now called VaniTea Cafe, as of late 2015]

TC recently had a piano recital and afterwards we had a little snack as a reward for her job well done...

I had a coupon I wanted to use as well (20% off your entire purchase, minimum $15 total)

I liked that many of the stores had their Christmas decorations out...TC and I like the happy boba mascot too. Yes, cute overload! This was also Bert's second visit here and he was curious to try their snacks...

and by snacks, I mean FRIED FOOD. Having seen their menu, everything on there is pretty fun fried. It's the same kind of snacks you would find at an Asian night market, from what I've read and been told. Food is served in paper bags and you get a barbecue stick to poke your food and use it as a utensil.

What was new and got me a bit over excited was the addition of macarons!

They were on the pricier side, $2.50 each (sheesh, they should at least be $1 less in my opinion) and were offered in a variety of flavors and colors. One was even two toned.

I ended up getting three to share. See? I didn't go overboard. As for drinks, Bert and I shared a mango/orange/banana snow bubble smoothie whileTC got the melon version...

with boba. For us, nein/non/Hell to the No!

Bert and TC chose the snacks which were sweet potato fries with sweet chili sauce and fried chicken cutlet...

The food was just "so-so" to me.

Now about those macs, here was the trio which included strawberry (the two toned), ube (the purple) and bubblegum (the pink).

As pretty as they looked, they were quite inconsistent in shape, quality, and texture. Because they were in a cold case, the shell didn't taste as "light" or "crisp" as I wanted it to be. The ube mac was thin and soft. The bubble gum mac was unpleasantly hard. Hmmm.

The strawberry was actually the best one, but that's not saying much. I've had worse at a place that not longer exists, Yumz Bakery, so that was never blogged. These aren't that bad, but for those who don't know what a real macaron should taste like, these are the best representatives of this little dessert.

A bit disappointing overall. I'll have to ask the gals here next visit if they make these in house or if they are made elsewhere.

Previous visits to Tap Tap:
"Tap That! Tap Tap Boba"

Would I try their macs again? Maybe if they lowered their price point and weren't refrigerated and were better quality (tall order?). I know that TC really likes the drinks here so I'm sure we will be coming around again sometime during the break...which can't come soon enough!

Bubblegum flavored cookie does not sound appealing to me. Bummer they were on the lame side.
