It's right around from 6th and B (near La Gran Tapa). We arrived around 9:45 am and were wondering if anything was even left, if we were to believe the reports of them selling out way early)....
At least there wasn't a line outside here...

Donut Bar bills itself as an "artisanal" donut shop (artisanal = fancy/frou frou/hand made/blah blah, insert "foodie" buzz word here).

As you can see on their chalkboard, the majority of their selection was crossed out. Fk! And it was not even 10 am yet! It would have been nice to have tasted their much touted blueberry with Meyer lemon and their Creme Brulee but it was not to be that morning...

There were only three kinds left.

It's pretty small inside. No time for lingering. Just get yer donuts and get out. No places to sit outside either. The people working here were really nice and friendly. They told us that the morning rush for donuts wiped out most of the other flavors.

Coffee is $1; tea is also available.

The lone survivors of that morning's donut onslaught were the Peanut Butter & Jelly bar ($3/filled with raspberry jelly) and the Chocolate Euphoria ($2/dark chocolate topped with chocolate shavings and powder).

Then there was the plain Old Fashioned ($1).

As an added bonus, if you are so inclined, you may also buy a copy of Darlene's awesome comic "The Girl with the Donut Tattoo" (only $5). I already have my copy, the first run from last summer's Comic Con.

Here's our paltry selection along with two containers of maple syrup

This was the Chocolate Euphoria. It looked nice but wasn't that exciting. Bert thought the chocolate was good and seemed to taste like better quality chocolate than the kind you'd get at a regular donut shop.

The Old Fashioned was alright, but not any better than the kind I'd get at Star Dust. Maybe my donut-taste buds aren't that "sophisticated", if that's even a reach, but to me, this was just okay.

Everyone's favorite in terms of taste, appearance, and creativity was the PB&J bar. The peanuts provided crunch and the jelly inside was so fresh tasting.

Where did we sit down to eat this?

Across the street next to this tall building with palm trees in the front courtyard.

There are tables with chairs there so that's where we parked ourselves to enjoy these before hopping on the trolley again to get to Old Town.

I normally don't eat donuts this way but gave it a shot. I prefer my donuts not to be "wet".

If we didn't ride the trolley that day, it would have been a nightmare trying to find parking. There is never any parking downtown and that day was not exception.

Because I'm a crabby bitch, I don't see the appeal of going here super early with everyone else just to get donuts that may or may not be there by the time it gets to my place in line. I would especially be more irritated if I had to fkg circle the block several times or park half a mile away just for the privilege of standing in line. I understand they want to serve a quality donut and only make 1,000 (or whatever it is) a day. No more, no less. Once the donuts are gone, they're gone.

That being said, I'm not hatin' on the place. I would still go there again because I am curious to taste their other offerings despite my misgivings.

Right now, this place is the "shiny new toy" and hopefully the hype will die down and people can buy a decent selection of donuts after 10 am! But if you put a gun to my head, I'd rather have donuts from Mary's or Stardust.

I haven't event attempted to go here yet. But I still want to. Even though its higher priced and all that... I still want to try it! I'm hoping the hype dies down a little and we can make it over in a few weeks. I'm not excited about the parking situation, seems like they're in a bad spot for that, but oh well.
Yeah, I hear you loud and clear Mary. The parking situation just makes my butt cringe!!!!
