More of Levis...plus the Levis Armoury!

Since we were unfamiliar with the town, we had no choice but to follow NM and her kids around the neighborhood...

This billboard touted the virtues of Blanche de Chambly beer, made by Unibroue from Quebec.

Further up the street, we would pass by NM's favorite breakfast place...

which was La Courtisane. Good thing it was closed. I might have gone crazy in there, since it had both breads and pastries (boulangerie and patisserie).

La Courtisane is located at 51 rue Saint -Louis in Levis, QC, Quebec.

A few blocks away was this imposing structure, the Levis Armoury, located at 10 de l'Arsenal Street. It  was built from the years 1911-1914 and was designed by the architect David Ewart. From afar, the building resembled a castle with it's thick stone walls and corner towers with turrets.

It housed le Regiment de la Chaudiere, a Primary infantry reserve regiment of the Canadian Forces.. Located in the center of old Levis, the armoury is a two story Baronial style stone structure with a copper hinged roof.

In 1991, it was recognized as one of Canada's Register of Historic Places. It is significant as a pre-World War I armoury which resulted from the reform and expansion of volunteer militia.

There were cannons flanking the entrance which the kids enjoyed climbing on.

There was also a tank outside that the kids made a beeline for.

While it would have been fun to stay longer, we were getting pretty tired and needed to check into to the hotel recommended by NM, the Hotel Kennedy, a small family owned hotel with music themed rooms.

Here's the view from our room. So exciting. The parking lot with some sort of old fashioned looking stretch limo. And hey, that's the same beer billboard (again!)!

Below are photos of the dining area, featuring framed photos of famous singers and musicians. I spy the Beatles, Elton John and Johnny Cash!

Unbeknownst to us, this area was also where guest could enjoy their continental breakfast. In our case, we ended up skipping out on that perk because we had plans to meet up with NM and her pre-school age daughter for breakfast at a local place the next morning.

We had the Beatles room while C and her family had Jimi Hendrix.  I really wanted the Celine Dion or Luciano Pavarotti room. Yeah right.

Coming up...our ferry ride to Quebec City and our dinnner in Vieux Quebec.
