Return to Thai Fresh & Melt

After D and I watched the last Twilight Saga movie, we drove the short distance to get lunch at a new takeout spot near Rubio's...

What I like about this theatre, other than it's close to my house, is that you can buy your tickets at kiosk instead of waiting in line. And you don't have to pre-order your tickets online. You can buy them on the spot with no extra online fee!

About the movie, it was so funny how both D and I were so calm at the so-called "shocker ending". We were so unfazed by it and ended up dissecting the movie afterwards while waiting for our takeout...

at Thai Fresh Spring Rolls and Smoothies. There isn't actually an "and" in their signage but I thought it flowed better if I added it in. This used to be a coffee place, then a juice spot, then a short lived Hot Dog joint. Now it is a very tiny Thai takeout spot that has only been open a few months.

Only one lady was working today. When TC and I went here a few months ago, we only got the fresh spring rolls which I wasn't impressed b. This time, D and I ordered a little of everything from the menu.

There's no place to eat inside (you just order inside and wait outside) and only a few tables outside. Our food was ready in 15-20 minutes which we took to my place to eat. We ordered a lot since we would be eating with Bert and TC who also watched a movie around the same time; they saw the reboot of "Red Dawn" (with North Koreans as the baddies instead of the 80's go-to bad dudes, the Russkies.

First up, the Fish Balls. D wanted this favorite snack of her youth. These were served with a sweet and sour sauce. They had a spongy texture and bland flavor. Like this, I did not.

Next was the chicken larb which we all enjoyed. The taste was refreshing with lime and mint. I asked the lady to tone down the spices (for TC's sake) so it was pretty mild.

We also ordered the Som Tum, green papaya salad. I really liked the textures of the papaya, green beans, and peanuts. I liked how they use tomato in here as well. The flavor was very fresh and a bit on the sweet side (which I like more than the fishy version).

We ordered two of their fresh spring rolls. One version had Chinese sausage in it; the other was the shrimp. They looked the same, so just imagine this times two. Not that exciting but TC really liked it. I hate how these are loosely wrapped and are filled with "filler" (noodles and lettuce).

We also got the red curry which was really delicious over the white rice we got on the side. The coconut milk based dish had a kick to it but was soothing at the same time.

D ordered her favorite dessert, the sticky rice with mango...

We managed to finish 90% of the order. I'm glad we tried different things on the menu. I'll have to go back and try a few more dishes when the Thai food bug hits us again.

Earlier that same week, the same day that we watched the last Twilight movie (with TORC, her sis, MFH and La Ley), MFH and I ended up hanging out after our lunch at Pho Hiep Grill Chateau (what an unwieldy name). I was the amused observer as MFH shopped til she dropped at DSW, the Gap, Macy's, and a few other stores. We took a short dessert break at the mall's gelato place, Melt, which also serves crepes. It's owned by Koreans and they have a bulgogi crepe that sounds interesting but I'm not sure I'd ever try it.

Anyhow, it's been years since I last went to melt.

Our gelatos - MFH's lemon sorbetto in a cone...

and my espresso gelato in a cup. I had Vietnamese coffee earlier for lunch and here I was getting caffeinated gelato a few hours later!

I was wired for the rest of the day and night!

Previous visit to Thai Wraps here which was the same day TC and I saw "Paranorman".

I have a backlog of posts which are slowly being written...

I'm debating what to do for my holiday baking but I have a few new recipes to try (thanks Kirbie!)...

And is it just me or can you not stand that song that goes, "simply...having..a wonderful Christmas time!" Aaaargh!
