Nutmeg Bakery & Cafe

Earlier today I had the pleasure of having breakfast + coffee with a  dear friend...

Because of the holiday, we lucked out on the lack of traffic...

and also the lack of rain, which made for very smooth sailing from Chula Vista all the way up to Poway.  Nutmeg is where CAB and I planned to go several weeks ago but gave up on since the line was too long (plus it was a weekend not a holiday Monday like today).  CAB and I ended up at Phileas Foggs that particular day.

This visit to Nutmeg was with a different friend whom I've known for the past twenty years but didn't get a chance to really know until late last year due to working together on a shared presentation. I'm so glad that our friendship has evolved and that we were able to spend quality time this morning trying new places, such as this.

You order first and then find your seat.  Since we got there waaaay before 8 (which meant that we left at 7'ish from CV), seating wasn't a problem. We both dislike crowds and are early birds, which was cool.  The top two choices were ours.

Nutmeg is known for using seasonal ingredients with an evolving weekend brunch menu.  The folks working here are really nice and by the time we left the eatery, the place was pretty much filled up. It's easy to see why since the food was so good here.

Our breakfast - the Nutmeg scramble (hers) and Two Egg Breakfast (I'm so predictable).

Both came with toast plus a side of herbed potatoes and sliced fresh fruit.  I ordered an extra side of pork sausage for my dish. My eyes were too big since I didn't even finish it.  My friend enjoyed her breakfast very much The scramble had spinach as well as sundried tomatoes and goat cheese.

My sausage patty was substantial - dense and flavorful, but a bit on the dry side.  I'm hoping Bert wil finish it off later, ha ha.

The bacon slices were also substantial - thick cut with a faint sweet glaze.  My eggs were scrambled perfectly.  It had everything I wanted in a breakfast except for the fruit.

Not too far from Nutmeg were two coffee places we planned to hit up. As with my previous visits with CAB, you can probably already guess which two places they were.
