The Fish Boutique

[Update - Closed]

Yesterday, TC and I had the pleasure of having lunch with the awesome C from CAB Cooks...

We wanted to try this place that Cathy had blogged about last year (link at end of post)...

It was the curiously named "Fish Boutique"...

It's in the same strip mall as Trader Joe's and a few doors away from Stone Flats.

We used a coupon I clipped from the Reader (notice, no expiration date).

It is quite swanky in here. Lots of black and white, beveled mirrors, faux leather seats (in a reptilian print), and black crystal chandeliers (ooh, love that!). There were some big candlesticks by the wine rack that reminded me of that Candlestick named Pierre from Disney's animated flick  "Beauty and the Beast "(not to be confused with the creepy moving armed candle sconces from Jean Cocteau's film of the same name)...But I digress.

Beyond the black beaded curtain is the fish market section. Lots of beautiful fresh fish on display there.

So many good things on their menu...

They even had desserts in a lone cold case. There were about three shelves with different types of desserts. For the record, we had dessert elsewhere, but maybe for next visit, we can try one of these.

For starters, we had the calamari which was served in those cool Belgian frite wire containers, along with a slice of lemon and a side of warm ragu.

These were very light and crisp and seasoned lightly with herbs. The calamari consisted of rings and the tentacles (which I'm happy they included).

We shared the fish and chips. The waiter asked if we wanted to substitute the fries for soup or salad. When I requested the soup (it was clam chowder, dammit), he said it would be $3 more. WTF. He didn't mention that the substitution was an upgrade. I passed on it and stuck with the fries.

Man that fish was so good! There were about two fairly large portions of Panko encrusted fish as well as three smaller pieces underneath. It was fried perfectly and not greasy at all, not that it should have been. I would have preferred the greens on the side because they were wilted from the heat of the fried fish. Come to think of it, I'm glad I didn't get the salad either because this basically came with a salad under the fish. Below is the Tiger Prawns with Rice that CAB ordered.

There were about six (or was it seven) very large shrimp in there. The rice was quite flavorful and mosit, sprinkled with Herbs and infused with a seafood aroma. The fried fish (below) was fantastic.

OMFG, just look at that shrimp!

Here is Cathy's post from last November...and CAB's post (new!)

The official website of The Fish Boutique.

Even though we're hardly up in this area, I want to make a return trip with Bert so we can use the other coupons try the other fab items on the menu. That fried fish was one of the best I've ever had...

I still have to go by and try this place - it's not like I live far away from here. I just keep forgetting about it! That shrimp looks so good, so does the fish!

Hi CC! I really enjoyed the meal there with you two. The service was a bit weird and the waiter never came back to refill our water glasses. But the food certainly didn't disappoint. I'm glad you stuck with the fries because they were good!

hi mary - the fish boutique is one exit away from chez nous!

hi c - i didn't think they were that welcoming when we came in. kind of snobby but maybe that was the guests not the waiter himself. it was kind of dead when we were there too. i wonder if their business picks up later in the afternoon or what.

great fried fish!

I've never seen it crowded here. Everything is so darn good and fresh, if the location were elsewhere, there would be a wait to get in. I'm so glad the two of you got to try it.
