It's back! ABC Music Humpday Videos 2.0! "A" is for....

Welcome to the new year and also to a new slew of ABC Music Videos to be posted every Wednesday...

For the first installment, what better way to start than with one of my favorite rock groups, AC/DC (with Bon Scott before he died the classic rock star death of choking on his own vomit)! "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"!

This version is live and not the one you hear on the radio (if you listen to 101.5 KGB or Rock 105.3 like I do during the rare times I listen to the radio). I like the international album version better (the re-release in 1981).

This song recently made an appearance in "Bridesmaids" (which I thought was totally unfunny and a waste of my time except for any scene that featured Melissa McCarthy - OMG, that actress an her comedic skills saved that movie!) - the song was played during the scene where Kristen Wiig's character is playing an aggressive game of tennis.

Although "Dirty Deeds..." came from the 1976 album of the same name, it made a resurgence in spring of 1981, the year after Bon Scott's untimely demise. I remember it well because I was in 6th grade and that was one of the first CASSETTES I ever bought. I'm so damn glad my parents didn't monitor what I listened to! Ha ha. It's safe to say that my musical tastes haven't changed too much. Rock. Classic Rock. Hard Rock. 80's Metal.

"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" was re-released along with the rest of AC/DC's back catalog ("High Voltage "TNT", "Highway to Hell", "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)", etc). You know how the record companies capitalize on a rock star's death (ex: Freddie Mercury from Queen, Michael Hutchence from INXS, Stevie Ray Vaughn, etc)? Sell sell sell is their mantra! Anyhow, the band went on to great acclaim with their follow up tribute album, the now classic "Back in Black" featuring new gravel voiced lead singer, Bryan Johnson from the Scottish band Geordie.

If I had to pick which version of AC/DC I liked better, it would be the lineup with Bon Scott. His unique (strangled) vocal style and his not-too-subtle lyrics make him an unforgettable front man. Who better to sing raunchy lyrics to the Young brothers' crunchy three chord riffs? Bon Scott that's who! Never mind that Bon Scott was ugly as fk, he was the master of the double entendre (Hello! "Big Balls" anyone?) and sang about what he knew best, booze, women, drinking, gambling, rabble rousing, and sex. And did I mention booze?

And just for giggles, here's my inaugural post from November 2009 featuring Anthrax!

Until next week!
