Books Read in 2011

I wish I could give you an impressive long list of all the books I read last year (as in read all the words on the pages), but that would be pretty damn short. Like super short.

Instead, here's a smattering of stuff I read, stuff I'm trying to finish and books that I haven't started YET. Nothing high brow here...

Books Read in 2011
Cool Jerk - OMG! Color! - Paul Horn (All of your favorite characters in full technicolor! Hilarious and Un-put-downable!)

Cosmopolis - Don DeLillo (OMFG, RPattz plays billionaire Eric Packer in the Cronenberg film adaptation! Can't wait to see this!)
Strange Things Happen - A Life with the Police, Polo, and Pygmies by Stewart Copeland
Master of Cinema -Tim Burton - Aurelien Ferenczi
Burton on Burton (revised edition)- Tim Burton, Mark Salisbury, and Johnny Depp
Tim Burton (the $12 book of his exhibit from the LACMA)

Can you tell I was on a Tim Burton kick?

Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse series, Book 11) - Charlaine Harris
John Hughes and Eighties Cinema by Thomas A. Christie
Don't You Forget About Me - Contemporary Writers on the Films of John Hughes by Jaime Clark and Ally Sheedy

Plus some books on Filipino American History:
Filipinos in San Francisco (Arcadia Press "Images in America"series) - FANHS, San Francisco Chapter, et al. (we saw the preview exhibit for this book at the S.F. library in Fall 2010)
Filipinos in Puget Sound (Arcadia Press "Images in America" series) - Dorothy Laigo Cordova and FANHS National Chapter
Los Angeles Historic Filipinotown (Arcadia Press "Images in America" series) - Carina Monica Montoya
Maus (Book 1) - Art Spiegelman (re-read this graphic novel to make sure it was appropriate for TC)

Books Leafed Through (heh heh) in 2011
Serious Eats: A Comprehensive Guide to Making and Eating Delicious Food Wherever You Are - Ed Levine (I want to go to almost every place in that book!)
Filipino American Psychology - A Collection of Personal Narratives - Dr. Kevin Nadal (I know three people who submitted their narratives in this book, all are local San Diegans)
The Twilight Saga - The Official Illustrated Guide - Stephenie Meyer (Yes, Twilight! Don't judge!)
I Hotel - Karen Tei Yamashita, et al. (a book about the International Hotel in San Francisco and how the eviction of its tenants and the demolition of the hotel affected Filipino American History)

Books I am ALMOST done Reading:
Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter - Seth Grahame-Smith (I swear, I'm almost done!)

Love the back cover. It's funny to see people's reactions when I'm reading this at the chiropractor's office.

The Changing Vampire of Film and Television: A Critical Study of the Growth of the Genre - Tim Kane
and Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney (Yes, this book consists mainly of drawings! My excuse is I have an 11 year old who thinks these books are hilarious; the main character Greg is actually a jerk of a kid)

Books on my "To Read" List:
Darius Logan - Super Justice Force - David Walker (aka, the creator of BadAzz MoFo)
White Noise - Don DeLillo
Underworld - Don De Lillo
Leviathan - Scott Westerfield (borrowed from my daughter's teacher who's really big into the Steampunk movement)

Books I Just Started Reading:
Hidden - Shalini Boland (First book of the Marchwood Vampire series trilogy)
A Discovery of Witches - Deborah Harkness (So far, so good!)
Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire: Book One - George R. R. Martin (Holy shit! How many characters are there in here?!)
Squee's Wonderful Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors - Jhonen Vasquez (okay, this is a COMIC book; Vasquez is also the creator of the animated cartoon show, "Invader Zim" which TC is currently obsessed with)

I just realized I included the Mindy Kaling book, "Is Everybody Hanging Out Without Me?" on the pile. I actually finished that (in one day) in early 2012 so it doesn't really count. It will make an appearance on my list for next year.

My biggest challenge is slogging through the Game of Thrones books! Good god, there are literally dozens of characters to keep track of!

Here's my list from 2010...

Compared to you, I barely read any books except for autobios. Wasn't Mindy Kaling's book the best?? And I can't get very far with Game of Thrones.

I laughed at the first photo BTW

I loved Mindy Kaling's book! She was so awesome in "The Office" and her cameo for "Knocked Up" (the speed dating scene).

ha ha! It's got one of the greatest covers ever! I like that the vomit has a bone in it!
