ABC Humpday Music Videos 2.0 - "C" is for...

Flashback to 1979....

When all the girly pre-teens were plastering their walls with Tiger Beat posters of Shaun Cassidy (I couldn't stand his toothy smile and his feathered locks' he played one of the "Hardy Boys" and was a teen idol/singer who sucked) and Scott Baio (that's Chachi, the Fonz's nephew in "Happy Days", or the dude from "Charles in Charge"), I had posters from Hit Parader and Creem on my walls with rock guitarist extraordinaire Eddie Van Halen and the dreamy Robin Zander, frontman of Cheap Trick.

Ladies and gentlement, may I present Cheap Trick!

"Dream Police" was the opening song of the album of the same name (released in 1979). It was one of Cheap Trick's biggest hits, rising up to #26 on the Billboard Hot 100, along with "Surrender", and "I Want You to Want Me". I wore out my "Cheap Trick (Live) at Budokan" album that summer.

Cheap Trick was and still is one of my favorite rock bands of all time.

Robin Zander rocked those light colored suits and had that long blond hair. I totally dug his voice too! I can't believe he's 62 now! Wut?

And what about the bassist Tom Petersson; I thought he was also good looking. The drummer, Bun E. Carlos was too old and bald for my tastes but he was a solid drummer. On a side note, he later resurfaced as the drummer of Tinted Windows, the super powerpop group consisting of Taylor Hanson, former lead singer of boyband Hanson (wtf!), James Iha of The Smashing Pumpkins, and Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne (of "Stacy's Mom" fame).

And last but not least, Rick Neilsen, their manic guitarist with the cool triple necked guitars and checkered guitar straps.

Pop culture reference:
Shady ticket scalper Mike Damone is heard singing part of the chorus to some girls in the teen 80's film classic, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", trying to convice them to buy tickets to an upcoming Cheap Trick concert.

"The Dream Police...da da da da da da da!"

Here's my previous entry on "C" - The Cult!

Next week..."D"!

I saw a girl cover band a few years ago in Solana Beach: Cheap Chicks. They were, uh, awful. But I do appreciate listening to random Cheap Trick song every so often.
