Que Huong yet again...

Last weekend, my friend and I met up with SD Foodbloggers:  Kirbie and her FH from Kirbie's Cravings and Dennis from A Radiused Corner.

Dennis liked how this sign instructed people to park over in Burger King's spaces. It's in Vietnamese on the other side...

Unfortunately Carol from CAB Cooks was sick so she wasn't able to join us today. So if you're reading this Carol, we ate this for you...The Shredded Chickenfeet Salad with shrimp chips. If you like texture, you'll like this salad. The chickenfeet itself were kind of soft yet crunchy at the same time. It's like chewing cartilage but with a tasty dressing!

I don't even think I had pieces of the shredded chickenfeet in this photo. You'll just have to wait for Kirbie or Dennis's post!

Although we ordered the pepper frog legs, they brought out the wrong order. Instead of sending it back, we chose to keep it since it was already prepared and none of us have ever had this dish before. The frog legs were chopped up, breaded, and fried. There were definitely tiny little frog bones in there. Tasty with lime juice squeezed on top and dipped into the salt and pepper!

We had a large split order of the wings - half fish sauce (pictured) and the other half tamarind.

They look the same but the tamarind is actually below. I prefer the fish sauce wings more while another preferred the tamarind. My friend who accompanied me is a non food blogger. She is the one I had brunch with at Eclipse in late April (followed by our foray into PubCakes). She doesn't have a blog nickname yet but I'll have to get one for her.

Our waiter (the guy who folds all of the money into cool shapes) suggested the snails in curry soup. Kirbie and her FH had that before but we were curious to try it as well. I really liked the broth since it was creamy and gingery with a strong lemon grass and curry flavor. The snails I didn't like so much, especially since you have to suck it out of the shell. The texture was gooey and mucousy so I didn't like it as much compared to the Snail Green Mango salad at Nam An since the pieces were larger and cut up as well as more firm. Kirbie said they were given rice to eat with the soup last time. This time, Jay gave us a French baguette so soak up the broth. Very nice of him!

We wanted to try the Bo Luc Lac  (shaking beef) - served atop watercress and garnished with cucumber slices. I liked the marinade on the meat but some pieces were kind of chewy. It wasn't as "soft" as Nam An's or Brodard's. I have the recipe for this (see Wandering Chopsticks' version here) that I want to try making.

We also tried the CROCODILE. This was the crocodile in curry soup (tasted like the same soup the snails were swimming in). I liked the soup but the meat was quite different. Well, it looks like chunks of pork in there. The piece I tried had a bit of fat on it. It looked like pork but it tasted fishy. It's hard to describe. It was the least favorite dish for all of us. I believe Kirbie took home the leftovers for her brother to try. I wonder what he thought of it...

Looks like pork or chicken doesn't it?

As you can see, we had quite a diverse assortment of food here. It was fun trying new things, talking about food, and hanging out with my friend and fellow foodbloggers whom I admire. We'll have to do this again, but maybe at another venue. Ba Ren? Oton? Okan?

Here's Kirbie's recent post on Que Huong which also links Kirk's previous posts as well as mine...

Update on 11/23 - Kirbie'spost now up!

Up next, dessert!

I had so much fun! I need to get my post up. Been busy eating the last few days and traveling so now I need to sit down and start posting! You know my brothers loved the crocodile and they both said they didn't taste the fishiness! I wonder if I should have told them it was fishy beforehand and maybe they might have paid more attention and noticed it. I'm glad they liked it. I didn't like how fishy it was, but I love that sauce.

hi c - chicken feet isn't really my thing but at least i can say that i've tried it. it wasn't too bad. i prefer crunchy textures to slimy (ugh, those snails). as for the salad, next time you go, try the pork and shrimp w/green jackfruit. sofa king good!

hi kirbie - ooh can't wait to read your traveling posts. you always find cool places! glad your bro's liked the crocodile.

CC, I did try the pork and shrimp salad. We absolutely loved it! The Mister was all over that. It was still good the next day as leftover.
