Return to Barnes BBQ

Sometime earlier this month we visited Lemon Grove's Barne's Bar-B-Que...

I love their pig mascot...

We were lucky enough to get a parking spot in the strip mall...

We wanted to get two dinner combos to go...

As TC and I waited for Bert to place our order, we checked out the African American History Month posters. These posters highlighted famous inventions and contributions by African Americans.

We got one combo with Brisket; the other was Pork Ribs.

The sides with the Brisket included beans and coleslaw.

The pork ribs came with potato salad and more beans. I didn't think to get the sauce on the side but it turned out to be just fine. The sauce kept the meats moist. Plus,  since I have a sweet tooth, I happened to like their sweet sauce.

From their .99 cent soul food menu, we ordered a side of Hot Sausage which came with rice.

Here's Bert's plate with a sampling of the items. The rice was not so good. It tasted really mealy and soft. Not sure if that is the style of rice for this type of food but I didn't like the texture. Both Bert and TC enjoyed Barne's style of BBQ. The brisket was cut so thin, making it easy to eat. Coop's brisket is thick cut but just as good.

We plan to do another revisit with the newer coupon. We want to try a few other items from the .99 menu as well. The place did brisk business while we were in there. I liked that the clientele was multicultural. Nice to see that!

That sausage was pretty good! Must try their other stuff. Too bad their rice is kinda yucky though.
