I really just wanted a small snack...
This was kind of weird for me...eating by myself that it. I felt like a lonely loser (and no offense to those that do eat alone) without Bert and/or TC with me. But then, I looked around me and there were at least three people in there eating alone also. Well, they were dudes - one mail carrier and two other guys chowing down. I didn't feel as bad.
An order of musubi is two pieces here. I got the kelaguen musubi from the specials board ($4.50) and the Spam musubi ($3.50). sauce container you see is filled with finadene (soy sauce with lemon and a hint of peppers). You also have your choice of having either red rice or white rice. I chose red. The red rice comes from annatto seeds (also known as achiote in Chamorro and atsuete in Filipino).

I ate one of each and save the other halves for Bert and TC. This was the kelaguen musubi. I wish it was filled with more kelaguen and less rice. There was just a thin layer of kelaguen inside. Loved the green onions. In the end, I ate half the rice but finished the filling and the nori wrapper.

Here's the Spam one...

You could kind of see the sprinkling of furikake underneath the Spam. Again, wished there was more meat than rice. I would make the Spam slices larger if I was making this.
It was a filling snack to say the least. A few doors down in this little strip mall was another place I wanted to visit to pick up some takeout food...

I've never seen musubi offered with red rice. That's really interesting and different! Looking through your pictures first, I thought it was fried rice or kimchi rice. I'm thinking fried rice musubi would be a good idea.
hi alyssa - thanks for visiting! :)
i like the red rice variation. since it's a chamorro (guamanian) place, red rice is one of their staples. i like that variation and that they give you a choice of red or white.
and yes, fried rice musubi would be so good!
