Steak Dinner at C's

Wut?

Back to the Canada posts I say!

We were still on Manitoulin Island and earlier that day drove around parts of the island, checked out the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation, and tried poutine while having lunch at Carol and Earl's, a local mom 'n pop joint). While Bert and TC had fun riding a horse and a mule at the Kicking Mule Ranch, C and I went food/snack shopping at Foodland and later, we all checked out some miniature horses at her friend's place.

To say the least, we were all very tired from a long day, even though my day consisted of gawking at all the interestingly named foods and trying Canada's version of carne asada fries. Not even close and no cigar. Sorry Canucks but that poutine sucked Terrence and Phillip's tiny stick figure ballz.

On a nicer note, C's husband, J (the cattle farmer) grilled up some steaks from their cattle. We started off with a fresh green leaf salad with sliced cucumbers...

Along with roasted and seasoned potatoes fresh from the grill...

And lastly, the steak that came from their beef (not killed on their premises though). The meat was leaner that what I was used to but it was still delicious.

He also had us sample this venison jerky (C, help, is that what it was?). Like most jerkies, it was a bit tough and chewy. The flavor didn't seem so "way out there" like I thought it might be. A bit gamey but not unpleasantly so.

Day 6  in Canada (but day 2 in Manitoulin) is now done. I must still slog through one more day in Manitoulin and one more day in Toronto!

Enjoying my spring break so far. Post that will be coming down the pipe include some of my birthday freebies (Rubio's, Daphne's, and Fat City Steakhouse).  It's also been challenging trying to eat "clean" this week but I am making some caloric trade offs this week. I'm so stoked because I can fit into my old 4's again! I'm sure that doesn't elicit sympathy from some, but for me, it is a big deal because even though I am not "big", when I do gain weight,  I can tell by the way my clothes don't fit me. But now they do and I won't have to get rid of those old jeans anymore!
