Seafood Friday #4 - Angel Hair Pasta with Clams

Hey now....

Here's one of my easy 'go to' recipes.

Angel Hair Pasta with Clams

Ingredients:

1 16 oz pkg of angel hair pasta
olive oil
4 cans of canned clams (I used the TJ's brand)
garlic
lemons
Italian parsley
Optional - black pepper, red pepper flakes, white wine, butter

Easy Ass Directions:

Boil the pasta
While the pasta is boiling, splash some olive oil in a pan and heat it up.
Smash some garlic cloves and finely chop (I used nearly the whole head of garlic for this)
Throw in the garlic cloves and turn the heat to medium.
Let the garlic cloves cook a tiny bit but be careful not to let it burn
Pour in all 4  cans of clams and juice (I usually open it all ahead of time and put in a bigger measuring cup)
Let the oil/garlic/clam/clam juice mixture cook for  several minutes.
Add some lemon juice
*Optional - you can also season with ground black pepper and/or red pepper flakes. If you want to make this fancier, add a few pats of butter (thus negating how nice and light this dish is) and/or a splash of white wine. I only added the red pepper flakes tonight.

The pasta should be done by now so drain it.
Add pasta to a big bowl.
Pour the clam mixture on top of the pasta.
Garnish with snipped Italian parsley.

Eat and enjoy.

Okay, no nasty gross comments now about vaginas.

I was so happy that Trader Joe's started carrying canned clams again. In fact, these were introduced January of this year after a long absence of canned clams from their store. These were "Maine Whole Cherry Stone Clams". They are so big and meaty! They used to carry another type of canned clams but it was discontinued about a year or so ago which made me go all David Banner. Sometimes, CVS (formerly "Longs") would have sales on the "Snow's" brand - 4 for $5 or if you were lucky, $1 per can. I used about 4 cans of this new brand for this recipe.

One of my friends taught me this recipe. Her version didn't have the lemon juice though. I thought it would be a nice touch since lemon kind of brightens up the flavors and goes nicely with seafood.

Like how "precise" the directions are? You can't fail with this unless you are a total 'tard in the kitchen. You can play around with this recipe. Hell, I even added some leftover canned corn. We'll be seeing that tomorrow.

All done in about 30 minutes or less. Take that Rachel Ray.

I love these clams! They actually kickass on Snow's brand of canned clams. Don't even get that Crown Prince crap - ugh! And Geisha brand? Only if you like the taste of metal? The Crown Prince brand don't even have the meat and is mostly like the equivalent of oceanic hotdogs - lips and assholes, you know the nasty dark long thing and the chewy clam edges. I even found a tiny clam shell fragment once. Nice. No, these TJ Cherrystone clams are pretty damn good and for their quality, a bargain at $1.99 a can.

Nice find with the clams at TJ! I used to buy their premade in a jar clam sauce back in the day but I don't like it anymore. I had the clam sauce at the Spaghetti Factory (half clam sauce, half mizithria) for the first time last week - pretty darn good!
