"Animating Life - The Art and Science of Laika" at the Portland Art Museum (Spring 2018)

We didn't have to walk to far from St. Honore Boulangerie; get to the Portland Art Museum...

The familiar figures for Laika's four movies greeted us in the distance...

We missed the traveling exhibit when it was down at Comic Con the previous year and we weren't about to miss it now especially since Laika, the stop-motion animation studio is based in Oregon (Hillsboro, a neighboring town near Portland).

Known thus far  for their four groundbreaking films, "Coraline", "Para-Norman", "The Box Troll Kids" and "Kubo and the Two Strings"....

I'll keep my comments to a minimum -

Below, a giant animatronic skeleton that was seen in "Kubo"

Placards included interesting facts about their craft as well as dioramas, sketches, and figurines from all of the movies:

Box Trolls:

The house from "Coraline":

The house from "ParaNorman":

"Coraline":

The "other Mother" from "Coraline". We took TC to see that when she was still a toddler and while it scared her at the time, she likes the quirkiness of that movie now.

This was one of the most amazing pieces in the exhibit - the life size "Fantastic Garden" from "Coraline":

"Kubo":

We really enjoyed our stay for this exhibit. TC was FREE because she was 17 at the time. Saved us $20!

We were so glad we were able to see this exhibit during our Portland trip.  Seeing all of the detail that went into each movie's characters was mind blowing.

Here's Pechluck Food Adventure's post on the exhibit (she has videos in her post as well):
