The Crafty Butchers

During Fall Break back in late September,

I met up with Mary for lunch.

The venue is always her choice since it's her lunch break and she knows what's up in these parts (Manila Mesa). This time, it was a new sandwich place near the Pyramid thing on Miramar Road. There are two entrances; one in the parking lot and the other from the street. However, the back lot is where the reception area is so keep that in mind. Plus no one really walks the streets here it seems.

Other side - dancing meats and beers.

Their concise menu. I chose the barbacoa with mango salsa while Mary had the Thai chicken. We were able to take advantage of an online groupon (thanks Mary!) so that helped out.

They have this cool old time cash register...

As you can see, it's pretty damn cavernous in here. At night, this place is probably happening once works gets out (military, students, etc).  The owner was a really nice guy and so was his mother! She was there helping out. Everyone there was pretty friendly. At the time of our visit, the place was still quite new and in just opened new.

Heh...

Grumpy Cat and Ariel mashup.

The floor had old LP records in there. I didn't recognize the artists. It would have been a travesty to see some rarities under there though, ha ha. Pay no mind to my janky feetz.

Our lunch:

My barbacao filling was nicely seasoned; the mango salsa was also bright tasting. A great combination. On the side, I chose bitter mustard greens which I love. I grew up eating these; my parents (and even Bert's) used to grow them in the backyard. The waffle cut fries were Mary's side. They were thick and crisp like they should be.

I forgot to mention, my bun was pretzel which had a nice chew and that blistery look on the crust.

Mary's Thai chicken with coleslaw with peanut dressing. The flavors were great as well along with the same bun which held up well.

Here is Mary's post from our visit a few months ago (it also includes another later visit with her colleagues).

Glad I tried it out at least once. I'm hardly ever up here, much less at night when the place is more crowded.  The atmosphere seems fun if you like playing giant games and such (pool, cornhole, etc). I liked it during our visit since it was not crowded. Their menu is limited but they do have a great beer selection.
