JNC Pinoy Foodmart

Decided to get some ube ice cream at the local Filipino food place:
It's located on Otay Lakes Road, across the street from Southwestern College and in the same strip mall as Henry's (soon to be Wild Oats), 7-11 & Yokozuna's. It's a stand-alone building and shares space with a copy place and Domino's pizza. JNC used to be called Pacific Foodmart and was owned by a former student's parents. Then they sold it to a relative, who then sold it to the current owners. In February 2005 there was a fire (captured on film by a student on his way to school - he then sold the footage to the local tv stations for bucks!). Guess where it originated from? You guessed it, the Filipino place. They had some faulty wiring or something (insert hot oil/lumpia frying disaster jokehere) and the fire consumed the entire building, which destroyed the former Duffodil's Florist. That sucked big time for the owner because it was days before Valentine's, the biggest flower giving holiday of the year. She lost a lot of money and ultimately chose not to rebuild in the same location. While in line, I bumped into one of my friends who had just bought some takeout. Since I was third in line and it was moving slowly, I whipped out my camera and started snapping shots. They are dark because I didn't use the flash. I'm such a nerd. You can see the fried fish, fish sinigang and beef picadillo.
See that dark "chocolate" meat dish in the front? Diniguan baby! There was also pinakbet, pancit and beef mechado. I couldn't make out the rest, but it all smelled good!
Their menu...Prices are reasonable too. You can get a two entree item with rice for $4.75. Not bad.
They also have one aisle filled with Filipino food items plus a freezer in the back. On the right side (not pictured) is a small selection of Filipino vegetables (long beans, bittermelon, kabocha squash, eggplants, etc).
TFC (The Filipino Channel) was on. Sorry, but I can't stand the crap they pass off as 'entertainment'. Makes me want to pull my hair out.
I bought this out of curiosity plus it was $1.99. I hope it tastes good. I'll find out later today.
Here's the ice cream I bought - ube flavor, my favorite. I know it's not Magnolia brand, but this will have to do for now. Looks like I'll be making some halo-halo soon.

I've had take-out from this place a couple times for Screg & I and must say that they do have pretty good food and cheap too. I did not know that they were responsible for the fire.
