Philippine Independence Day Festival, Kimball Park

Today TC had a performance at Kimball Park with her Philippine dance troupe. It was cool because her dance troupe's offices are just across the street so the children and parents walked over. I, on the other hand, drove there and was lucky to find parking. Got the last space in this small lot! As I was walking over to meet her and Bert and the rest of the company, I saw this: Hmmm, we ended up getting lunch there. Here's some pre-made halo-halo (below). Just add milk, ice cream and shaved ice!
The combo offerings at Conchings - pork adobo, pinakbet, pancit bihon and some other stuff I couldn't see!
Ah -ha! I remembered this post from Cathy (Mmm-Yoso's guest blogger), so I just had to try a scoop. I didn't need to eat lunch (had a big breakfast) - dessert was calling!
One scoop was going for $3.00 (it's $3.25 in their store). Their ice cream is made the old-fashioned way in their store using all natural ingredients. I got the chunky chocolate.
Look at their flavors! Coco-jack (the jack being 'jackfruit')! I should have got that! It was cool to see jackfruit in an icecream flavor - especially since this was not a Filipino brand. They know their audience!
The combo that Bert and TC shared (well mostly Bert). The BBQ skewer was $2.00 and the combo plate was $8.00. Kinda pricy, but this was a festival, so of course the prices are gonna be hiked. You got to pick two entrees plus rice so Bert chose pancit bihon with pork adobo.
I got TC a chunky chocolate cone as well:
Bert's cappuccino crunch. This ice cream was so flavorful and creamy - you could really tell the difference that it was made by hand.Lots of the vendors were businesses or professional associations as well as community based organizations. I ran into some friends at the Filipino American Educators Association (FILAMEDA) of San Diego booth. Although I'm a life member, I haven't gone to a meeting in years but will support their events and causes. Raising my child is my priority. I used to have time to do all these professional and community based organizations, but that was before she was born. There were also clothing and jewelry vendors.I bought a beautiful Philippine inspired sleeveless beaded lace blouse for $25. Something to wear during my school's upcoming graduation (where I usually try to wear something cultural). The were no other food booths besides Conching's Cafe and Niederfranks so they must have made bank being the only ones!

Niederfranks, now there's one place I had to try a couple years ago. They have really good ice cream and unique flavors too.
