Brodard's fail + en route to Huntington Beach

After Paderia Bakehouse in Fountain Valley, we went back to nearby Westminster...

in the hopes of grabbing a few nem nuong here...

at Brodard's, behind the 99 Store at the Mall of Fortune.  Just our luck though...

They were closed the day of our visit!   Noooooooo!  We were hoping to have some nem nuong (pork paste rolls) to go. Sadly, this was not to be.

As we headed to the freeway, we noticed the fireworks places were still up. July the 4th had passed a few days earlier. Fireworks are legal in the OC. There were so many fireworks stands on that stretch of road.

From Westminster, we were now en route to Huntington Beach.  One way that we determine stops when we are doing road trips is by looking at our maps and picking a city or town we haven't been to before. That is how we came to select Huntington Beach this morning. Plus, the coffee place I wanted to try was also in HB.

Along this stretch of the PCH, we passed by a what I thought was a power plant...

along with marshlands...

This was actually the AES Huntington Beach Utility Company (thank you google maps).

Not the loveliest sight in the world but on the other side of the freeway was the Pacific Ocean.

Previous (successful) visit to Brodard's:
"The Trifecta at Brodard's" July 2014 (during an epic food crawl/roadtrip with Cathy of mmm-yoso

I know we just had coffee in Costa Mesa, but dammit, we were going to have coffee again at the newest location of Portola Coffee Roasters...

The next best thing (or at least miles closer) is the nem nuong at Pho Ban Mai (in Mira Mesa). The accompanying sauce is not as good but it has those fried things inside and that porky meatloaf. Yum. I have yet to try the version at the vietnamese spot next to Golden City. It's probably in a couple of other spots but we haven't been venturing far for viet food. Creatures of habit, ya know!

Ah yes, Lynn... I like the nem nuong at Pho Ban Mai! Their sauce is not even close to Brodard's but it's better than Pho Duyen Mai's version.
