Signs in Long Beach + Bridges in San Pedro

Check out this old school sign for Don the Beachcomber...

This was one of those kitschy tiki places...one where you could probably get a stiff tropical drink. It will have to be next time...

since we were en route to San Pedro. But first, more signs such as Gladstone Donuts in Long Beach...

TC noticed Homer Simpson and Maggie painted on their curiously newspaper covered windows. Geez, I wonder if this place is still open?

I (Heart) rotating signs and food replicas! Colonel Sanders yo! The original one, not the wierd versions on TV played by two ex SNL comedians (Norm McDonald, wtf, and Darrell Hammond). More recently, the Colonel was played by none other than teen 80's hearthrob Rob Lowe! Double wtf. He's too YOUNG looking to play the crusty Colonel!

Burger places galore such as Dan's...

and Jim's! Cool curved roof and Greek'esque red trim.

We would later see a "Bob's Burgers" the next day in Westminster, ha ha.

Mariscos Los Buchones (I later looked up this place and it opened just last year) - their botanas look so good (pix online).

We got through Long Beach and head to traverse a few bridges to get to San Pedro. This was the Seaside Freeway and the bridge there is named Gerald Desmond. There is another bridge being built alongside the freeway (more info linked at the end). It was quite interesting seeing the unfinished bridge as we sped past...

The bridge leads into Terminal Island, an artificial island which is split between the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach. The island is completely industrial and contains canneries, shipyards , Coast Guard facilities as well as a prison.

More of that bridge in progress...

We saw a lot of shipping containers as well...

Heading north on the Seaside Freeway, the next bridge to cross was this distinctive green bridge, the Vincent Thomas, the fourth longest suspension bridge in California. The Vincent Thomas connects Long Beach to San Pedro.

I get nervous driving on bridges. I'm glad I was the passenger and was able to take photos.  Otherwise, I would have been white knuckling it.

Someone's video of the Seaside Freeway (showing the ongoing construction):

Here's a relatively short drone video (pretty cool I must say, you can put it on mute if the music annoys you, which it did me):
