Nomad Asian Bistro

After our brief foray to the  Huntington Pier...

we headed to Long Beach to meet up with our friend for lunch...

She chose the spot, Nomad Asian Bistro. Both she and her husband live nearby on Naples Island; today it was only her since he was not feeling well.  They hadn't eaten here before but heard good things about this place.

We chose an outside table under the shade. Appetizers and entrees were ordered to be shared family style.

Green Scallion pancake - nice and blistered and chewy and full of green onion goodness.

Pan fried pork dumplings...the dipping sauce was delicious with a tiny bit of a kick.

Our entrees came with soups - hot and sour and egg drop. Standard.

Rice was represented three ways - fried and brown (but it looked red) and white (not pictured):

TC's go-to dish, Orange chicken - Very saucy. You could really taste the orange rinds in here. We picked out the hot pepper husks. This dish had the most kick.

Our friend's Shrimp with Lobster Sauce  - I couldn't really detect the "lobster" in the sauce, but the shrimps were plentiful and plump.

Bert's Cashew Beef (vegetables were water chestnuts and green bell peppers) - Soft and flavorful, this beef was. I liked the cashew crunch as well.

My Walnut Shrimp - I was expecting the shrimp to have that mayo'ish dressing. This was downright dry. The nuts were also added on top and were sauceless. I was kind of disappointed by this.

We enjoyed all of our dishes. I didn't really eat my soup, preferring to concentrate on the main dishes. Of the four, I liked Bert's the best; my own dish was too "dry". With my friend's shrimp dish, I felt like I needed to eat something healthy to offset the fried stuff we had.

Service was really great here. The servers were young and eager to please. We noticed most people chose to sit inside; it was pretty warm after all, but we wanted to eat al fresco (plus better lighting).

My friend emailed me later that afternoon telling us that her husband really  enjoyed her leftovers!  It was so very nice seeing her again. Hopefully we can return the favor if she and her husband visit San Diego...
