Their outdoor patio was shaping up!

We hadn't had breakfast here before so...
it was time to give it a try.
I noticed that this lovely painting by local artists MaryJhun Dandan; her work can also be found at Project Reo Collective and on the walls of Cafe Virtuoso (where she works as a barista)...sold too! For $200! Her mini quartet of drawings was going for $20 each.

Menu boards:

They always have lovely flower arrangements here, a nice touch.

The whole shebang:

Mocha and cortado:

Their signature breakfast sandwich - eggs, bacon, avocado, white cheddar, tomato, microgreens and house chipotle aioli on toasted focaccia.

Not bad...We were asked how we wanted the eggs, so over hard it was. It was perfect to share for a light breakfast.
We also got a scone with three butters, blueberry, Nutella and the new lemon poppyseed.

Before we left, a friendly couple sitting outside who saw our plates while they were in line earlier chatted us up. They were curious to know what we thought of the butters. For the record, my favorite was the blueberry. We ended up talking about other things as well. They were that engaging! Turns out they lived nearby and this was their go-to coffee spot. It was really nice meeting such friendly people.
This past weekend, TC was with us...

We noticed that their patio now had bench seating along the perimeter! This was cool to see!

The artwork was also changed out.

Updated menu board. This time, I would try that black sesame syrup latte.

TC's blueberry hibiscus lemonade - looked so pretty. This was before she stirred it up.

My iced mint mojito latte with mint and cucumber syrup. They did not put a cucumber slice on the rim as depicted on their IG, but I could taste it in the drink, which was really refreshing.

Bert's mocha...The guy gave us the smaller size (9 oz rather than 12 oz) and didn't add up another drink I had ordered. They ended up comping us the extra drink due to the misunderstanding, which was quite nice of them.

My 2nd drink was the Black sesame latte - made with coconut milk, black sesame syrup and deactivated charcoal. I was curious about this and also wary. I was thinking it would have a burnt taste from the charcoal, but in reality, I couldn't even taste a hint of it at all. I could only taste the black sesame flavor.

There's always a first time. Their menu board said, "now with activated charcoal". I wonder if the previous version didn't have it then.
Back to the breakfast at hand, TC's biscuit with gravy and egg (over easy). The gravy had maple rosemary drizzle. She really liked it. As for me I was put off by the amount of gravy since I dislike the appearance and texture of overly wet foods

Bert had the breakfast sandwich once again. I skipped out on breakfast since I had a little something earlier.

Just as good as the first time! Yellowish tinge due to the patio umbrellas outside.
Previous visit to Public Square Coffee House:
December 2016
As always, the customer service and drinks were great here. Chula Vista needs a coffee shop like this, like pronto.
