Rapport Coffee

It was the day before my birthday and both Bert and TC were off from work and school...

That meant weekend road trip to celebrate a milestone birthday for yours truly...

We left the house at 9 am and didn't hit too much traffic on the way up. As you can see, we passed by the infamous (and now decomissioned) San Onofre Power Plant, aka "the tits", ha ha.

It was nice not having to think too much about planning this morning. Bert made the executive decision for us to try a new (to us) coffee spot in a town where we hadn't had coffee before, which was Rapport Coffee in San Clemented.

It's in a quiet business plaza area that looks quite dated to be honest, like it was stuck in the 80's or even 70's. The full name is Rapport Coffee by Cafe Smith (not sure why).  All seats inside were taken as it is quite small in there so we had to sit outside, which was for the better. I am not a fan of being in crowded and confined spaces. Plus, I could take pictures without feeling self conscious, not that it's ever stopped me before.

Our trio of drinks -  bonbon (the large one), cortado and the ginger ristretto.

The cortado was actually Bert's. He normally gets a mocha or a latte but kept it small this morning.

We both shared the bonbon. It wasn't what I was expecting. Online, it looked like a layered drinks. The bonbon I've had in the past from an SF area coffee shop was a lot different.  Hmmm. I believe this had condensed milk in there.   It was too milk actually but still smooth in taste.

The ginger ristretto was quite refreshing and unlike anything I've ever had before. The ristretto is espresso in which less water is used.  In this case, the barista used ginger juice for that bracing feeling. The espresso was quite concentrated but diluted with that strong ginger juice which they prepare in house.

I wouldn't mind having this again for a future road trip.  There's health benefits to ginger, so I felt like I got something from drinking this, ha ha!

These drinks started off our day. TC opted for no caffeine or tea this morning. In fact, she chose our next destination for a late morning snack (either late breakfast or early lunch, whatever you want to call it)....
