Christmas decor at the Parol Festival 2017

Bert sent me this photos from the 20th Parol Festival...

held at the Jacobs Center for Innovation. I didn't go this year...

but was happy see these photos of the many different parols on display. The parols below were entrants for the parol contest.

The Parol Festival consists of cultural dance performances by PASACAT Junior Dance Company (TC danced for PASACAT for eleven years before stopping several years ago to devote more time to her studies and sports). There are also cultural vendors, other cultural performs (it varies on a yearly basis) and workshops on how to make parols.

According to Bert, this year's festival was very well attended. I miss the days when TC was small and we would watch her dance in the traditional costumes. Now other little girls are wearing those same outfits (sniff, sniff).

The price is $15, having gone up over the years, but it is well worth it. Attendees are treated to a great show and have the opportunity to learn cultural traditions (parol making) and shop from local vendors.  The price also includes "merienda" (snack) - calamansi juice, lumpia, turon (this year it was cut in half), pan de salt, pancit (looks like they used a different type of noodle) and mini puto (which mean rice cakes in Tagalog and NOT the Spanish insult for male whore).

Info for this year fb page

Stay tuned for next year - It's usually the second Saturday of December and in past years, held at the Jacobs Center on Market Street in Encanto.
