It wasn't for leisure though...
I took my dad to his follow up cardiology appointment. Since I was in the area, I thought I'd try Bread & Cie for breakfast. I was solo this time. My sister wasn't with me to share a meal sadly.

My light breakfast consisted of one of their excellent croissants and a ficelle (it's like a mini thinner version of a baguette).

They really do have the best bread here. Nice and crunchy was that ficelle. The croissant, shattered when I bit into it, contrasting with the lighter than air layers within.

The folks working here are super friendly and made me feel welcome for my first visit. I had coffee earlier from Kona Coffee but got some of their water as well.
This was the first part of my morning while waiting for my dad.
On my out, I snapped this photo of the cool vintage neon sign for Jimmy Wong's Golden Dragon.

I spent about an hour walking up and down 5th Avenue and perusing the shops. I was able to find a Christmas themed Star Wars shirt at Buffalo Exchange as well as some free scroll calendars for Cathy. I noticed many restaurants had changed over the years. The shoe store Mint was gone. The City Delicatessen was now some sort of beauty salon. Fifth Avenue Books, one of my former favorite bookstores was long gone. The owner, Jan Tonneson, used to work for Wahrenbrock's downtown; yet another venerable bookseller long gone.
After checking in with the staff and finding out that my dad needed to recover for a few hours after his procedure (he had a stent put in), I went out again and you know, I went back to Bread & Cie. The man who rang me up recognized me from earlier and said, "Ready for round 2?"!
My lunch was a Reuben panini with a side of housemade pickles.

This was one of the best sandwiches I've had this year. The thinly sliced pastrami went so well with the crunchy pickled cabbage. The sandwich also had the addition of freshly chopped watercress. The chopped ingredients kind of made it messy to eat but I managed to not look like too much of a slob. The portion was also just right.

I'm glad I was able to finally eat here in person after having had their pastries in the past.
Who else has been to Bread and Cie?

"Cie", in case you didn't know is the French abbreviation for the word, "Compagnie" (company), which can also mean business.
My dad was sufficiently recovered by the mid afternoon and I was able to take him home. Last time we were in Hillcrest, my sister and I took him to Saigon on 5th. He wasn't hungry, having eaten a sandwich earlier, so straight home we went.
