Chula Vista Adult School Culinary Arts Program - Cinco de Mayo

Recently, the co-workers and I went across town to have lunch here. This was our third time here. Read about the first visit here here and the second one here...
The room was decorated with pinatas while the tables were covered with real table cloths with real flower centerpieces. The tables also had glittery confetti as well as Mexican candies adorning the table tops. If you look closely, the blond woman sitting down is the head chef, Ellen Baum, who teaches the Culinary Arts program at the Chula Vista Adult School. The lady sitting down next to her was the older Filipino lady who was grilling me during my second visit.
One of my co-workers got the Horchata (sweet rice drink with cinnamon) while I got the Jamaica (hibiscus flower punch).
For the whopping price of $8, you get your choice of an appetizer, an entree, one two sides, a drink and dessert! Not bad! I chose the Sope with Beef Picadillo.
This was my full plate - the Sope de Picadillo, my Jamaica, my Tres Leches cake, two tortillas, rice, beans, and Beef Barbacoa (spicy shredded beef). The barbacoa was so good! Loved the spiciness. I ended up not finishing the sope because I really wanted to eat the barbacoa like a mini burrito!  The alternate to the barbacao was Chicken Mole (not pictured).
Closeup of my plate...

My co-worker's Pozole (pork soup with hominy) which was the alternative to the Sope de Picadillo. I had a bit of it and it was really flavorful. I kind of wished I picked this instead.
This was one of the dessert choices - the Tres Leches cake which I liked but ended up only have a few bites since I was already full.
Here's the other dessert offering, the Flan which had a hint of coconut flavor. The texture didn't seem as "dense" as the flan that I make. It was kind of more "fall apart", if you could describe it that way. It wasn't like it was a mushy flan, but I like my flan to be more "firm". Flavorwise, I liked it!
Here's some of that Mexican candy on the tables. There were tamarind/chile candies, chicle gum (like the kind the street kids try to sell you when you're in TJ) and lollipops. Hopefully they're not laced with lead.
This was a really neat flower arrangement on the table...
These lunches are served every Wednesday and Thursday and you have your choice of paying a la carte or getting the full deal for $8 (more economical). If you're ever down in the Chula Vista area, check it out.
