Costco Dogs & Baja Betty's

Today was the last day of TC's horse camp. We went to visit her at the stables at the ranch. It was really cool seeing her on a huge horse just trotting around. She did horse camp last year and loved it! They learned about the different breeds, equestrian terms, and also learned to groom and clean up after the horses. One of their sayings was, "No work, no ride". So basically, every kid had to pitch in and clean the manure. Whew, the smell though wasn't so pleasant. Anyhow, after visiting her at camp, Bert and I went on a few errands to get last minute stuff for our trip.

My main quest was to get a better camera because the Pentax we have is kinda sucking. It was
alright a few years ago, but I wanted something better (the pictures in this post are from my old camera). Also, I wanted the new camera for our road trip to the Bay Area...What better place to get a good deal on a camera than Costco? I ended up getting a Panasonic Lumix (forgot the serial #) with a 12x zoom and all these other bells and whistles. Let's put it this way, it makes my current camera look like those cheap Fisher Price piece o' shite kiddie cameras. After that splurge, we got our lunch outside...Hell yeah! $1.50 for a Polish Dog and 20 oz. drink! I didn't feel so bad spending $200+ after all!
So, for a grand total of $3.00, I got us two nitrate laden, nutritionally deficient meat tubes (meat, heh heh) slapped between a pair of buns. Sound appetizing? Here's my Costco Polish Sausage - drenched with ketchup and slathered with sweet relish. Lovely.
This dog is Bert's - he likes his with everything, as you can see.
Later that afternoon, I went to watch "Little Ashes" (yes, for the 2nd time this week and three times total within this month) with a couple of my friends from work. Again, we got the 2 pm matinee. There were more people this time, but probably still less than thirty people in the theatre. Most were men but I saw a few women in the audience. At least I wasn't the only one this time. The third time watching this film was even better. I could concentrate on other aspects of the film that I didn't catch the first time, like the dialogue. There were a few other scenes that were so excruciatingly homoerotic. Lots of soulful mangazing, fervent kissing and langid hair stroking. But no real sex if that's what you really want to know. Dali supposedly spurned Lorca's advances but it is implied that something happened between them that changed their paths of friendship forever.
One of my friends who saw it today saw it with me a couple of weeks ago at the Ken. He also agreed that the sound at the Hillcrest Cinemas were much better. We could fully understand Javier Beltran's thick Spanish accented English better. My other friend like the movie as well, having studied Lorca's poems whilst a student in Mexico. She also thought all of the actors were "handsome" - the ultra hot Robert Pattinson as Salvador Dali, the smoldering Spaniard Javier Beltran as Federico Garcia Lorca, and Brit actor Matthew McNulty as Luis Bunuel. I think I'm all "Little Ashes" burnt out now. Kind of like when I saw "Twilight" five times. Yeah, you heard that right. But "Little Ashes" had way better acting that "Twilight". Sorry, all you Edward Cullen fans. Pattinson rocks as Dali. Pattinson is Dali.
We ended up meeting another friend from work at Baja Betty's. This place is on University Ave, right next to Bite and Mama Testas. The drinks and quesadillas were half price during Happy Hour ($3 each). Our waiter had an "exotic" look and my co-worker asked if he was Persian. He turned out to be Brazilian from Rio de Janeiro. There were a lot of cute waiters - mostly gay. The clientele was mixed - straights and gays and it was ethnically diverse as well (always a plus).
There were complimentary chips and salsa - the chips were okay but the tomatoes in the salsa were underripe. Not so good.
You know, I took a photo of one of the trio of quesadillas we ordered, but for some wierd reason, it didn't come out. No matter - the quesadillas all looked the same, unless you peeled them open to see the filling. We got three kinds - mushroom, beef, and chicken. They were cut in fourths and served with a dollop of sour cream and guacamole. So, yeah, no pics of the food.
I thought their menu items had some pretty funny names - check out the Pink Taco platter!
Imaginative drink names as well:
Anyone up for some Pink Pussy? How about a Cocksucker? Boring me, I only had a Diet Coke with my quesadillas. Anyhow, it was cool hanging out a bit with my friends after the movie. Ever since I've been on vacation, it's been such a great feeling not having to worry about work the next day and having the freedom to sleep in.

Forgot to say what a great post this was! Oh, and thank you for the laughs! I laughed my @$$ off when you pointed out the "profiterole" thing! I was kicking myself because I knew the menu seemed odd! "Profetta Roll"!! LOL! That is tooooooo funny! Well, what the restaurant lacks in proper names of dishes, they don't lack in taste!

I'm still laughing my butt off at that gaff. Too funny! Thanks for that!

Enjoy your vacation! Can't wait to hear all about it! XO
