Marukai Market

Last week while doing errands, TC went to check out the newly opened Marukai Market, next to Marukai Home and Marukai Daiso on the corner of Balboa and Mercury. We were lucky to get a space in the miniscule parking lot.
Gotta love these cookies! I didn't buy these though.
The Pocky selection here is great. It's not just the regular chocolate and strawberry varies. There's the bitter Men's flavor, Green Tea, Almond Crush, Strawberry Crush as well as Pretz and another brand from Korea.
Even though the interior is kind of small, it's nice and neat and best of all, it doesn't smell (like Vien Dong III, Seafood City, or hell, any other non Japanese market for that matter)! The prices for their produce are reasonable too. There were a lot of vegetables I'd never seen or used before. I didn't buy any fresh items because we still had places to go after this and I didn't want it to go bad. We just got snacks and a couple of cold drinks.

These are tree stump shaped cookies witha chocolate coating. TC's choice. I think it may be from the same makers as the chocolate mushroom and chocolate pine cone shaped cookies. What an odd shape for a cookie.
Our drinks. The one on the left is peach flavored. The blue one on the right is Ramune but in an aluminum can instead of that funky shaped glass bottle with a marble in it. This was for my husband.
It was crowded in Marukai Market, filled with all kinds of shoppers of all ethnicities. I spotted blacks, white, Japanese, even Filipinos (I heard bits and pieces of a conversation in Tagalog) plus a bunch of college kids. It was pretty happenin' there!

Hey CC - We were checking the prices, and most of them are about the same as LA prices...plus the sale item prices are the same as the LA(we get the sale flyers since we've had memberships for very long) stores. Marukai is big in Hawaii, so you'll find a lot of "Local Kine Stuffs" that were relatively difficult to find in San Diego.
