My first customers

Remember how I said I started a new hobby which was making earrings? I just sold a couple pair of earrings a few days ago to a friend. Not sure if that counts since it's a friend and maybe she was doing it to be nice.

But today, at the gym (I go to a women's only gym), this woman bought about $40+ of earrings. Yay! She liked the trio of hearts dangle earrings I made as well as a few Korean Jade pieces. I was selling the hearts for $5 (which I made especially for the upcoming Valentine's day holiday) and the jade ones for $7. Those prices aren't really steep in my opinion, but I would probably charge more if I used real silver for everything. I'll post photos in a future blog.

I'm a bit embarrased because I'm definitely not some sort of jewelry craftsman or anything. For example, I still haven't learned how to do a wrapped loop. I can only do a simple loop. These earrings are just beads strung up on a head pin, closed with a loop and attached to an earring hook. But it sure is fun coming up with interesting designs and color combinations. I was afraid some of the women wouldn' like them because there are a lot of older women (50's and up). That particular customer bought the earrings for her five daughters plus a few pairs for herself. Nice! Another woman bought two pairs of the hearts as well.

The owner of the gym said she would keep my samples out there for the members to purchase. She also asked the business owner next door if I could sell them. Well, I didn't ask her to do that, but that was nice of her. After my workout, I met the owner next wdoor and she said she would sell my earrings by consignment (if her partner approves). If it's ok'd, they would keep an extra dollar off my price. I'll see if I want to really go through with this. I don't want to feel pressured to crank out stuff mindlessly to the point where it's drudgery.

Mind you, this hobby is only for fun and certainly isn't intended to take over my real career. But it was kind of nice to try my hand in something non education related.

That is so cool!!! Will you be posting some photos of some of your earrings? I have to admit that I am a terrible love for earrings. I have got tons and tons of them...and I keep buying more! They've got so much personality and you can wear ones that suit your mood, complement an outfit...

I'll be your first Canadian customer!! ;)

Oooooooooh! Dangly are my favourite!!! :)

Yeah, good idea about not posting them on the blog. You don't want anyone stealing your ideas!!!

i didn't even think of that! but some of my "ideas" were gleaned from magazines i've picked up here and there about beading and jewelry anyways.

glad to know that you like the dangly kind.
