Stella Jean's Ice Cream

Next door to Pop Pie was a new ice cream place,

which is also owned by same owners of Pop Pie...

Stella Jean's Ice Cream makes small batches of homemade ice cream using ingredients from local merchants...

There is a cool wall featuring a mural by San Francisco based artist Lauren Asta (link to her whimsical work here). It's cut off, but you can make out the name of the shop within the art work.

The list of flavors isn't long (which I prefer). The "V"s  are the Vegan flavors. I liked that you can split the scoops but it will cost .50 extra to do that. No flights.  We chose  the small size and in cups. I know cones look cool and all but I hate holding my food and it sucks to hold something and try to take a photo of it.  I'm such a grumbler but hey.

Top view of our choices. By the way, the guy scooping asked which flavor I wanted on top. That was kind of nice of him to ask. I noticed he was pretty generous with the scoops as well.

Bert's Mint Chocolate Chunk + Salted Caramel Corn:

Of his two flavors, I liked the mint chocolate chunk better. There were quite a few brownie piecesin there. This was a nice twist. I was expecting mint flavored chips or something but the flavor was executed solely in the ice cream. Bert didn't think there was much of a caramel presence. He wasn't not into that flavor as much.

My Earl Grey Citrus Tea Cake + Matcha Pistachio (hiding underneath):

Here is a better view. The Earl Grey Citrus Tea Cake was really complex. I was attracted to the purple hue which comes from two things. The tea cake itself is made with citrus fruits from a local merchant (they call them 'purveyors'/very hipster, ha ha) and is of a purplish hue due to the addition of butterfly pea powder. The tea cake is broken up in chunks within the ice cream which has a light tea taste. I was afraid it would too strong but it actually wasn't. I also felt that this flavor stood out with the house made blueberry syrup which added another layer of flavor and color. The matcha pistachio had a lot of nuts in there. Both flavors were represented equally. The green tea was a nice mix with the pistachio.

The "Love your H20) mural by Gloria Muriel put up for the county wide art project Seawalls back in 2016  (see my previous post here).

I'm such a fan of her art work. I've been known to just stop the car or turn around just so I can document her art...
