Downtown Chula Vista pub crawl - Stops 1, 2 & 3 Chula Vista Brewing Co, The Grindhouse & Groundswell Brewing Co

Yesterday Bert and I had the pleasure of hanging out with Thane...

he was in town for family business and leaving the next day...

We hadn't seen him an awhile and we ended up having an impromptu pub crawl of the four pubs (not counting the bars) of downtown Chula Vista. Our first stop was the Chula Vista Brewing Company, located a few doors down from the Star News offices (corner of F and Third).

You will notice a pattern of Bert and Thane's beer preferences...

First up, the Abundance IPA. This was Thane's. He likes the hoppy beers. Really likes them. Me, not a fan. Too bitter.

Bert had the Osito English brown ale. This was more of my liking. Needs some ice cream. You know, it's been awhile since we had a proper beer float!

I sat this one out and chatted with Thane.  Our next stops were a few steps down.  Before hitting up the next brewery, we stopped by the Grind House, which used to be the coffee shop The Nest.  The lady working there was super cool and was playing some great 80's music while we were waiting for my sandwich...

The Cuban - chock full of what it should have...the meats, mustard, pickles and cheese...

Needed to have something to soak up the drink I was to eventually have...The guys also took a few bites but it was mine for the most post. Brewery #2 was Groundswell.

Their brews - I ended up getting a sampler of the cream ale (free) while Bert had the Piloncillo (which won an award accord to the owner); Thane had the Your Murky Boy hazy pale ale...and hazy i was.

My cream ale was pretty nice. Went down easily. I don't think I could throw back 8 of this, but 2 oz is good!  I wish this place did flights. I didn't see it listed as an option.

We would totally get the Piloncillo again. It had such a complex and deep flavor.

The hazy pale ale was even more bitter than the one he had at the first place. To each their own.

I have to say that the folks at both of the breweries were pretty cool. Everyone there is chill. This is Chula Vista, the South Bay. No pretentious hipsters here.
