A new park had opened up in the South Bay the previous week and I had to check it out...
Cesar Solis is named after local South San Diegan, who also holds the distinction of being the highest ranked Filipino American in the SDPD. He retired as the assistant to the Chief of Police. He grew up in Otay Mesa and attended Montgomery High School before joining the police force. What's cool is that he is still alive. Usually, parks or schools for that matter, are named for individuals who have passed away. He is very much alive and enjoying retirement.
The new park took years in the making. It's next to Ocean View Hills Elementary. This park is quite vast with soccer fields, baseball diamonds, basketballs courts and even its own skate park.

Lots of sidewalk for joggers and dog walkers too...
I liked the various quotes along the low walls...

Their skate park is pretty cool...

On the southern edge of the park, you can see the 905 freeway.

There is also a really nice and sizeable playground with restrooms and a concession stand (which was closed).

Signs made by local school children were still up. One of the park workers was taking a break and saw me taking photos. We ended up chatting for a few minutes and he was even kind enough to show me the inside of the concessions room. He said during the grand opening, they sold popcorn and other refreshments. He also said Cesar Solis and his family were present during the dedication ceremony. He was a very nice man who took pride in his job as a parks employee; this park as well as two others in Chula Vista are part of his rounds.

It's about time the South Bay got a state of the art public facility where children and the rest of the community can play and enjoy the outdoors.
