Toronto Day 1 - Drive By Photos + Street Art

Okay I lied. You'll have to wait for the Hungarian food post. Here's a few more pix as we headed for the Toronto neighborhood known as The Annex. According to wikipedia, it's an affluent neighborhood and borders the University of Toronto.

"It is mainly residential, with quiet, tree lined one-way streets lined with Victorian and Edwardian homes and mansions, most of them built between 1880 and the early 1900s. During the 1950s and 1960s, an influx of Hungarian immigrants moved into the neighbourhood after the 1956 Hungarian Revolution was suppressed, and many of the businesses and properties along Bloor are owned by Hungarian-Canadian families...

The Annex is also one of the most expensive neighbourhoods in Toronto in which to rent or own a home. Because of its proximity to the university, it has a high rate of seasonal tenant turnover, and its residents range from university students to long-time residents." (wikipedia)

On another note, I recognized only one gas company, Shell, in Canada. Others were Esso, Petro Canada (their logo has the maple leaf), and this one, Husky Gas.
Hey, a Filipino place! Pampanguena on Eglinton Ave in West Toronto...The owners are probably from Pampanga, a region in the Philippines.
Traffic sucked here...As you can kind of see on the window, it rained...
Bike ring...
Record store
Graffiti above Scratch Espresso Bar on Bathurst St...
Steven's Grocery store - corner of Bathurst and Olive.
More graffiti...
We found a small parking lot near our lunch destination. And what do you know, another Filipino place! This time, a house of worship - The First Filipino Baptist Church.  REPENT NOW I SAY!
I thought these posters were rather cool...
This place was down the street from where we ate lunch. I think it was a karaoke place.
We loved the different neighborhoods in Toronto and the international flavor of the city. After our long redeye flight and the ordeal in getting our car rental (there was only one harried worker that morning), we were starving for some goodass food!
