Sab e Lee & Halo Halo!
A couple of weekends ago, I had the pleasure of finally meeting the Food Ho (of blog The Pork Porn Pages ) at Sab e Lee. Lotus (of the soon to be defunct blog Happy Cows) also went with me; the Food Ho, who is a chef, also brought one of her friends, who is also a chef but at a different restaurant. Our lunch destination was Sab e Lee, which we all hadn't been to in a while. When the FH mentioned that she would be bringing a friend, I was kind of happy, but in a selfish way. More people meant more food to take pictures of! Isn't that a crazy reason? Anyways, it's true. I was giddy because I wanted to order a S-load of food. When Lotus and I got there at the designated time, the FH and her friend were already there waiting for us. This was Lotus' choice - the Pork Jerky...This photo was also taken by Lotus because she had a killer camera. It was funny because three of us were taking photos! I'm sure Koby (the owner of Sab e Lee) and his employees are used to it now - people taking pix of their food that is.
I figured that everyone would be sharing their food so I took the liberty of ordering several dishes to share. One was the Papaya Salad. When asked how spicy we wanted it, I asked the waiter to make it spicy by not too spicy. I should have had him make it spicier because it wasn't as hot as I'd liked it. This photo was also taken by Lotus:
FH's friend ordered the only noodle dish of the day, which was Phad See Ew with Chicken. I like these type of noodles - flat and wide. The sauce was pretty good but a tad bit too sweet. By the way, everyone had sticky rice to go with their food. We had two containers which were shared between the four of us.
I also ordered the Northeastern Style sausage with rice, curry and pork. You can't really taste the curry though, so don't freak out if you hate curry. There are two kinds of sausage on the menu; this is the first one listed. The difference is that this one has rice in it and the other has 'pork skin'. The last time I tried ordering that, they didn't have any. This was one of my favorites of the day. I could eat just this and be happy.
The FH ordered the awesome sounding Pork Neck. Well, her blog is named the Pork Porn Pages, so it's fitting that she ordered pork. OMG, the pieces that had fat on it were so good! I had to stop myself from picking her plate!
Condiments:
The last thing I ordered to share was the Beef Nahm Tok. This was thinly sliced beef marinated in lime juice, chilis and mint topped with ground rice powder. This didn't taste as good as the last time I had this. I think my eyes were bigger than my stomach too because we had way too much food than we could finish.
The four Foodies - Lotus, the Food Ho, the Food Ho's friend, and me:
Towards the end of lunch, Lotus and I noticed that the FH and her friend stopped eating, while we kept going. In our minds, we were all, "Uh, we better stop eating now or else we'll look like pigs!" or something to that effect. It was a great meal and we had a great time getting to know each other. We hope to have another lunch again, perhaps at Ba Ren or another venue.
After our lunch, Lotus and I drove down the street to the former Vien Dong III, which is now Thuan Phat. We went there to get a few things. Mint for me since I was going to make Bun, and Halo Halo stuff for Lotus. On the way home, we also stopped by North Park Produce in Chula Vista to get some Magnolia Ube ice cream...
The fixings for Halo Halo - strips of jackfruit, lychees, toasted pinipig (looks greenish - pinipig is flattened and pounded young rice), and Magnolia brand Ube ice cream. Sorry, there was no evaporated milk. We figured that the ice cream would provide the milkyness in the halo halo. Plus Lotus doesn't like evaporated milk in hers. Not pictured is our awesome cheapass ice shaver, bought for $6.99 at Seafood City.
More Halo Halo ingredients: Macapuno strings, palm nuts, nata de coco and red mung beans.
My Mug o' Halo Halo set against the lovely backdrop of my new favorite shirt. Love those nekkid chicks silhouette forming the "V"!

Anyway...Say hi to Lotus for me next time you see her.
