A few weeks ago, our department had our yearly planning meeting. One of my co-workers was kind enough to host it at his house in El Cajon (which is actually close to Rancho San Diego). He's going to retire this year and wanted to make our day super nice. His daughter took the day off to make us a really delicious breakfast. Below is the fresh fruit salad she made:
She also had some sliced fresh tomatoes with basil...Mmmm, this could have used some fresh mozzarella too, but I'm no complaining!
She also made a lightly spiced banana bread which was really quite lovely - moist (ugh, that word just grosses me out, ha), and with enough density in there but not too much that it tasted bricklike.
We also were treated to seasoned oven roasted potatoes sprinkled with parsley (or was that basil?). These were delicious - nice and crispy on the outside!
If all that weren't enough, she also had some Apple Chicken sausage and onions...I could have just eaten this with the potatoes and been happy. What an amazing spread, right? We were so lucky and spoiled that morning, as we ate breakfast and enjoyed the morning sun and the spectacular view from his newly landscaped back yard. And yes, we did do work that morning, planning for next year and going over goals and mission statements, etc...
Oh, I almost forgot this - His daughter made a zucchine and spinach frittata (she's supposed to share the recipe with me) which was really yummy.
After several hours of work related discussions, we headed over to the nearby Savanna Grill, which is on the corner of Jamacha and Willow Glen. Their official website is still under construction. It's right next to a North Island Federal Credit Union and the golf course (forgot the name).
It's quite nice and swanky inside. Very hip and loungy...
Love the chandeliers here:
We sat at the patio overlooking the golf course. Cool views.
We were next to the bar with flat screen tv's galore.
The menu was extensive. This was just the starters page.
They also had soups, salads, burgers, pasta and some serious meat entrees:
Since I was still stuffed from lunch, I just had the sliders appetizer. Now the menu said the onions were supposed to be "caramelized". Look closely, do those look caramelized to you? Not even close. Fail for the onions. The burgers themselves were decent. It was just the right portion for me since I didn't want to eat too much.
As ever, my patient co-workers put up with me compulsion with taking food photos whenever we go out to eat. This one had the special that day, which was a chicken sandwich with a creamy jalapeno sauce in there. I think about three people got this but I only took one shot.
Another co-worker got the Cobb Salad. This looked pretty good - especially the avocado! I'm not a fan of meat in my salads; I would eat this with just the vegetables.
This one is the Chicken Caesar Salad...
Wait, I lied. I did take another photo of that daily special. Here it is for your viewing pleasure. It's just another angle...
Here's yet another salad - which consisted of spinach, feta cheese, thinly sliced red onion, a balsamic dressing and some candied nuts (I want to say pecans, but I'm not sure if it was that or walnuts).
