This afternoon we went to the new strip mall behind the Eastlake Target. Not a lot of places are open yet, just Borders, Pat & Oscars, Trophy's, A Dinner Affair (a place where you make meals to go), and some other stores I don't remember. This shopping area will also have a new Henry's (which kind of sucks because the one near us will change to Wild Oats or some other similar store) plus a Trader Joe's (now that's kind of cool - a new place to go for lunch when I start work again).
Basically there are a lot of chain type places there - restaurants I wouldn't eat at. But we wanted to check out this new Yogurt Place called the Golden Spoon. This lady at my gym recommended it. We didn't know that today would be "Free" yogurt day. There was a long ass line outside the store. We killed some time at Borders to see if it would die down. It didn't, so we figured, we're here, let's go in line. Below is a sculpture of some creepy looking kids in front of Golden Spoon. When I first passed by this area last month to check on the progress of Trader Joe's, I glanced over the signs and just thought Golden Spoon was some fast food Chinese joint.
Twenty minutes from the end of the bridge to the front of the door - in 78 degree weather.

Nice!

The workers were all over the place taking orders. There were just 3 or 4 small tables, all of which were occupied by folks wishing to stay out of the heat.
Their menu. I was surprised they didn't have strawberry (TC's favorite):
Toppings were extra so we didn't get any. Plus, it's not like we need any extra empty calories!

We each got one small cup sans toppings. After we got our yogurt, we went out in search of shade, which I found at an empty bench in a recessed area near Borders. Snagged that bench. Bert go the Pecans & Pralines which he liked because it wasn't too sweet and it still had a good taste to it (quoted verbatim).
TC had the Cookies and Cream, which didn't really taste like it had any "cookie" flavor to it. It was pretty weak to us, but she liked it.
I opted for two flavors - the Espresso and the Chocolate:
It was all right - I liked the chocolate better. I also still think that gelato kicks ass on yogurt any day but it was free and on a hot day like today, I can't complain about enjoying a frozen treat.

Sidenote - We stopped by Target on the way back home to get cleaning supplies. In the bathroom, while TC was washing her hands, this old Asian grandma comes out of a stall and instead of washing her hands, hawks up a big logie and spits it into the trash dispenser right next to TC. Nice. And the logie wasn't even one nice piece, it was like a logie spray. Gross.

Yeah, another yogurt place in C.V. and their finally open. Golden Spoon is spreaded out in other places in San Diego county; but still not to local to South Bay. Now I don't have to travel to 3rd Ave in C.V. when I want yogurt. Yogurt is still good; but gelato rules!
These 'Dinner Affair' places are becoming more common now; there is "My Girl Friends Kitchen" mygirlfriendskitchen.com on Bonita Road and another further up Bonita Rd in a Stip Mall (can't think of the name right now).
hi hf!
i'd rather shop for my own ingredients and cook my own food (control freak that i am), but i can understand the conveniences of these type of places for moms (or dads) who don't have the time.
