Back to work...

After one week of a short-lived vacation, I'm back at work.

The next five days will be spent registering our current juniors for their senior year. They'll be coming into the Counseling Center in waves and we will meet with our own students individually and go over their graduation requirements, college plans, summer school plans, and so on and so forth.

I barely remember doing this when I was in school. I hardly ever complained about my classes or my teachers to my counselor (who is STILL there by the way)!

Okay, now I feel old. I was invited to my first wedding (of a student).

I've been to a few graduation parties, invited to an Eagle Scout ceremony, attended a couple of cotillions, but a wedding? Actually, I won't be able to attend due to a previous committment that same weekend, but I feel I should get her a small gift or card or something.

Oh yeah, for our 20 year reunion, the organizer sent us his weekly update with a different question for everyweek. This week's question (previous ones were, "Which countries have you traveled to?" and "What is your current occupation?") is: How many child(ren) do you have? Any grandchildren?

Holy shite! Grandkids?

Well, it could happen. Example: One of our friends dropped out of high school to get married at 16. Ironically, she was NOT pregnant; her psycho dad made her get married to get out of the house. Her husband turned out to be a total abuser (and luckily she dumped him after enduring several years of marriage). She did end up having a baby at 17. The kid is now 21. He could have a kid and make her a grandmother at age 38.

Holy smokes! Actually, my husband said one of his classmates is a grandmother already too! John's going to be 38 in Oct. I can't imagine being a grandmother at 38! Wow! Crazy!

I recently bumped into someone I used to babysit when I was in high school and she has been married for two years and has a baby girl. I feel so freakin' old! LOL!

back in college, i worked with a lady who was a single mother. she was 30 at the time and had a kid who was 15!!!! so if that kid got a girl pregnant, she would have been a grandmother at 30...

i don't know anyone from our class who are grandparents. just parents.

Crazy stuff! I just got roped into opening a Facebook account. My friends were hounding me about it for weeks. I caved in and opened an account. It's insane to see people I went to elementary school and high school with. People I used to work with overseas and when I was in Montreal and Toronto have also tracked me down. Crazy stuff. What's even weirder is to see where life has taken all of us.

If we do have a 20 yr high school reunion, I don't know if I'll go. I did my catching up this week on Facebook. I don't know if I need to go to a reunion. Who knows...maybe I may change my mind when the time comes. Maybe I won't. LOL!

Grandchildren, now that is a truly chilling thought.
