Hawthorne St. is part of the Hawthorne District...
and has tons of cool shops, eateries and the historic Bagdad Theater. It is now owned by McMenamin's which repurposes older historic buildings such as theaters and schools and turns them into either brewpubs, hotels, and nightclubs. The Bagdad was the site the premier for the art house film, "My Own Private Idaho", directed by Gus Van Sant and filmed in Portland. The film starred the late River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves who played two young hustlers. The movie theater also made a brief appearance in the now canceled Netflix series, "Everything Sucks", parts of which were filmed in Portland but set in the town of Boring, Oregon.
As you can see, "Black Panther" was still playing in the theaters in Spring 2018 months after it was released over the holidays. We quite enjoyed that movie when it came out and I was happy to see it was still going strong during the time of our visit.
Meanwhile, at Buffalo Exchange, which isn't really a thrift store, but more of a retail store, we saw some funky shirts, like this one. Look at those collars, my gosh.
Pass on that one for Bert.
But for this shirt, I did get for him. It wasn't vintage but more of a muted botanical print in colors he felt comfortable wearing. Bert doesn't do orange or yellow or brown. Blues are his thing. Plus, it was only $6 or $7.
On another t-shirt, I saw a Virgin of Guadalupe design...
We were getting a bit hungry and there was a historic eatery close by that we would go to...
