Danish Kringle

One of our SAT Prep vendors gave us an early holiday gift yesterday. She and the other rep are both from Wisconsin. She's from Milwaukee and he's from Muskogee. Since they both didn't have family out in Southern California, they decided to give their clients a little something from "back home" and that something was this...
I never knew what a Kringle was. I've only heard of "Kris Kringle" but never knew "kringle" was a dessert. This kringle is from OH Danish Bakery in Wisconsin. It's a pastry ring filled with pecans (at least this kind was) and topped with icing.
Here it is unwrapped. Cross section...It's kinda yellowish since I didn't use the flash. Look at that frosting! This probably would have tasted better if it was warmed in an oven. The girl who gave it to us said it shouldn't be microwaved. I had a small piece of this at 9:30 in the morning and kind of had a sugar headache afterwards.
That was quite thoughtful of those two to hand deliver a treat from their childhood. This kringle was devoured in less than two hours by us hungry counselors!

That looks really, really sweet. I'm not a fan of sweet things, but my husband is! He grew up on a farm and after every meal they had dessert. His mom is an incredible baker. Poor hubby! I can't bake like his mom! LOL!

I hope you don't get a sugar headache from the stuff I just sent you! I wanted to send you a bit of "Canadiana", so I mailed off some maple syrup, fudge, and some other things. Everything in the box was made on the Island, so it's all local. The maple syrup you can use on pancakes (I guess you guys call them hotcakes over in the U.S.) or on waffles. The fudge? I have no idea why on earth I sent you fudge! LOL! I don't even like fudge because it's too sweet. Perhaps you can chop it up and make cookies or brownies with it? LOL! I don't know.

Oh, I hope the Nanaimo Bar soap isn't too strong. Do you guys have Nanaimo Bars in California? It's a dessert that originated in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. The Manitoulin Soap Factory has a soap that smells exactly like a Nanaimo Bar. Since I couldn't send you any real Nanaimo Bars, I decided to send you one of those. Oh, and there's another little something in there for you too :)

I hope you get it before Christmas!

hi c! thanks in advance for the canadian goodies. actually, i do call pancakes 'pancakes'. they probably call them 'hotcakes' in the south. and fudge...mmmm!

i've never heard of Nanaima bar soap. oh yeah, i looked at the ICU soap again and realized the eyeball was only half of a sphere, not a whole ball. oops, so much for me telling tc that the eyeball bounces! my mistake!

snowing yet in canada?

Canine, as for the half sphere eye ball...even better!!! Tell TC that if she inverts the dome and puts it on a flat surface, it pops up (or jumps up) after a few seconds! The kids love them! The cats and our dog go nuts for them too. I guess they love anything that moves or bounces!

Next time you go to Vancouver (if you ever head back that way), take a little trip to Nanaimo so you can try a Nanaimo bar! One of the old ladies we know here makes delicious Nanaimo bars! I'm so glad we don't see her often, because it's dangerous to be around those yummy desserts! Nanaimo bars are one of the only sweet things I do like, but only in small doses!

It's actually a dessert, but a lot of people really love it so a soap was made and named after it. The soap kind of smells like a real Nanaimo Bar.
