I'm actually posting this one week later...TC performed for the 10th Annual PASACAT Parol Festival at St. Rita's Church Auditorium on 12/1. It was her third year performing for this event so Bert and I were pretty relaxed about it. Unlike the first year where we weren't sure she would remember the steps for the dances. I was a nervous wreck. Now it's..."Eh, if she makes a was at Saint Rita's Church Auditorium...
Maligayang Pasko means "Merry Christmas" in Tagalog. Here are a few of the beautiful capiz shell parols on display at the festival...These parols are from the Philippines and are quite pricey (over $250 for one this size).

Some of the costumes from the cultural exhibits from PASACAT's collection over the past 30 years... These are from the Spanish influenced Maria Clara suite dances.
A peasant hat, a pair of zapatillas (heeled slippers) and a bandurria, one of the stringed instruments used in the rondalla. PASACAT is the same Philippine dance company (the first one established in San Diego in 1969) that we hired to perform at our wedding along with a live rondalla.
Decorative hair combs used for the Maria Clara dance suite.
Woven textile from Mindanao as well as beaded belt.
The skeleton of a bamboo parol. The kids were still practicing. It wasn't showtime just yet.
The pabitin, which is a lattice strung with toys and candies. It is much like a pinata where the pabitin is lowered and raised from the ceiling. The main difference is except instead of hitting the pinata with a stick to release the candies, the kids jump up to grab one of the hanging goodies...
Bert and I volunteered for food serving duty but I had to leave once the show started so that I could be a "backstage mom" and help TC in and out of her costumes, etc...Merienda was served to all of the people who attended the Parol Festiva. We served pan de sal (bread rolls, not pictured) as well as lumpia,
pancit bihon...
Another show down...TC did four dances: Aray from the Maria Clara Suite, and Pasigin and Subli from the Countryside Suite. The other dance was one that she and the other girls learned that morning - the Parol dance in which they hold smaller parols and waltz in formation. She had a lot of fun and it was nice to see the kids' efforts pay off with a happy audience.

OMG! Lumpia and Turron!!! I am all of a sudden really craving lumpia! Argh!
Seems like not too long ago I was reading your blog and witnessing your parol making experience! I can't believe that was a year ago already! WOW! Where did the year go???
PS. I had been trying to ration the supply off amazing Asian treats you sent us. We've still got Pretz and Pocky left, but the Crunky walking bar is gone! I have to say that Hubby likes the Men's Pocky the best and I'm more partial to Strawberry Pocky.
Hi C! I thought I would make more parols this year...uh yeah, not gonna happen.
It was fun making them last year, but now, I feel too stressed out to even contemplate making one of those again!
I'm glad you're enjoying the Asian treats. I'm so happy you and your Hubby like the snacks! What exactly made that chocolate bar a "Walking Bar"?
By the way, Bert finally mailed off the cd I meant to mail you before Thanksgiving. I ended up putting our Christmas card in it too + the origami paper. I had been procrastinating for the longest time. You should get it by the end of this week. Let me know, ok?
Thanks! That's so funny, because I just sent off a package to you too! I sent it off a week ago, so let me know when you receive it. I included some stuff for Lotus too, so hopefully next time you see her, you can give them to her. Just a few items from the Island.
