Okay, I survived the first day of school...now the test is surving the rest of the year!
But seriously, it was mega crazy today with parents, teachers and students complaining about everything and me feeling pulled in twenty different directions. Not just me, but the whole department.
The first two weeks, we have to balance the teachers numbers. Yeah, we take care of them so they aren't over their contractual limit, but no one takes care of us counselors. They all think we drink coffee all day and read the paper when in reality we were working like mad trying to put out fires and fix schedules...I know, weh weh...but I just needed to vent.
Okay, when's the next holiday?
Things to look forward to:
1) the weekend! (which is also bert's bday)
2) catching up on watching my dvr's of anthony bourdain's 'no reservations' so I can just veg out
3) trying to decide where to eat with my lunch/dinner friends at the end of this month
4) trying to finish reading some books/graphic novels I've started but haven't finished

Hey Canine!
Sorry to hear the beginning of the school year is so stressful. Hey, everyone's gotta vent sometime, so go ahead! ;)
LOL! I can just imagine the number of times you guys in your department may have wanted to say the word from this post http://lifeonmanitoulin.blogspot.com/2007/09/f-word.html ! LOL!
Anyway, enjoy your weekend and happy birthday to Bert! Any big plans for his birthday?
Hola, And thank you so much for honoring my humble site foodopolis with a link on your ever so clever blog. Nice birthday gift for me! Today is that big day for me as well.....Keep the blogs rollin!
michael
thanks for visiting ME. love your blog! happy late bday to you! hope you had a good one!
c, actually, we WERE screaming and yelling the F word a lot the week before school started. it was late in the afternoon and we were furiously working on resolving schedule conflicts in the computer. one of the newbies accidentally had our registrar delete 2 sections of life science and 2 sections of english. we were going crazy thinking someone was hacking our system from the district. "Somebody is FKG with us! "Man, we are so FKD!" and so on. The newby figured out what she did wrong and I had her restore her mistakes. No one is supposed to delete sections except me, but she didn't know any better. it was a tense afternoon and a crappy night. we were so relieved that the classes were not "hacked". man, we were so paranoid to even think that!
Ack! That sounds like a nightmare! I would have been totally stressed out! Did you guys go for drinks afterward? LOL! Just kidding! Well, bet you're glad the first week of school is out of the way!
no drinks that night. i left at nearly 7 pm. that wasa couple of weeks ago. it's been really crappy, but the past two days have gotten so much better. so much so that i feel as though a huge weight is lifted. but, such is the life of an educator. with counselors, after balancing classes, come the classroom visits for the seniors, doing four year plans with the freshman, scheduling 4 year plan meetings with parents, helping students for the sat/act tests, dealing with d/f grades after each progress report, trying to encourage students to do better in school, provide alternatives, etc...it never ends.
