| What American accent do you have? Your Result: The West Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta. | |

Same results here naturally, some of us call it "vanilla english". For those interested, there's a name for the words used in distinguishing region/dialect: Shibboleth. The ones they use in the test are perhaps a bit simple, but common enough.
i like to think i don't have an accent, but yeah, i'm pretty much a california girl...
I remember Ross, our high school's Australian foreign exchange student who hailed from Tasmania. He once told me that while most Americans were fascinated with his 'Australian accent' (recall that in the mid-late 80's, America was enamored with all things Australian like Crocodile Dundee, the inexplicable humour of non-funny comedian, Yahoo Serious (wtf!), Fosters lager, INXS, "Outback Red" clothing at from women's retailer, the Limited, and even Olivia Newton John's clothing line, "Koala Blue").
Anywaaaays, my point is that while Americans found his accent "cool" because it was "Australian", he related that most Australians looked down on Tasmanian accents, "Much like how you Americans view Southerners as dumb hicks!" he said. Ouch!
Midland here. It said I have a voice for radio.
