Korea House

A few nights ago, I didn't feel like cooking so we went out for dinner in the Kearny Mesa area. Hopefully, if there was time to spare, we'd pop over to Ranch 99 to pick up a few items. As luck would have it, it was pretty crowded at Seoul BBQ, so we left. Then we wavered between Tommy Burgers, the Godfather Italian Restaurant (too hokey, it seemed), and Korea House, which won out AND we found parking. We hadn't been here in about a decade, for my birthday in fact.

It was about 7:30 pm and there were no lines out the door so that was a good sign. We were seated immediately. We noticed that Korea House added booths. From what I remember, it used to be open tables and it was pretty dark in there. The restaurant was well lit and each booth had a (tiny, compared to Buga's) gas grill.
For the appetizer, we chose the standby of Japchae noodles ($8.95):
Here's the grill, unmarked by the juicy goodness of meat and shrimp:
The view from our booth:
Why did I even take this photo?
The waitress brought out some green salad which they drowned (in my opinion) in dressing...
Next came the panchan and our orders of bulgogi and shrimp. She put the bulgogi on first:
Ahh...bloody meat...
Our panchan - spicy pickled radish and black beans:
More spicy pickled stuff (not sure what it was, but I didn't like it) and some sort of mayonnaised covered"seafood" noodle and vegetable dish:
Kimchi and spicy tofu:
Beansprouts and pickled radish:
Our Japchae appetizer which we didn't eat as an appetizer, but as a side dish. Hey, us Filipinos don't like to eat in courses! I'm used to having everything on the table at one time! I wasn't too crazy about their version of japchae. It had way too many vegetables and hardly any noodles! Boo!
The view from Bert's side. That's the shrimp on the left:
Our soup...I only had a tiny bit. I'm not a soup fan. This was pretty thin tasting soup. Not much flavor in it.
Oh yeah, now that shrimp is DONE!
Sweet tender crustacean...
Our fruity finale:

In all, it was a nice visit back to Korea House. We had good service and the waitstaff was pretty attentive, making sure that our food wasn't burnt. I still prefer Buga hands down but I'm up for Seoul BBQ next time.

Have you had a chance to try the Korean Bar B Q restaurant "Shozen" that I recommended on Mira Mesa Blvd?
They have fried garlic as an appetizer on their menu.
