Various parols (star shaped lanterns):

Dilis - little fried Fish, aka "Filipino Fries" (said by one of the moms there). By the way, there was a shitload of FRIED ASS food here...and only one real vegetable dish. Why am I not surprised? Got gout?

Asian roasted pork loin - this was made by one of the parents' older sons who is training to be a chef; he is currently enrolled in the culinary program at the Institute of the Arts - San Diego. Personally, I didn't like this - the meat was a little too pink in the middle for my taste. Didn't want to get that worm disease you get from raw pork...

Oh hell yeahhhhh, Fried Chicken Skin!!!

I think this was fried pork for the sweet and sour pork (the sauce was on the side):

Fried Salt and Pepper Squid (from Mandarin) - tastes just like the fried salt and pepper wings but with squid!

Here's the lone vegetable dish - Cucumber salad made by my sister in law...this didn't last long.

Filipino style Menudo - sauteed pork shoulder with tomatoes, potatoes, carrots and raisins. This was m favorite dish that night.

Here's a medley of the dishes - you saw the cucumber dish earlier. You can also see the fried fish (bangus - aka "milkfish") and fried rice and regular rice.

More dishes - fried rice plus dumplings, pancit and chicken katsu. Not pictured was the ahi poke (made by one of the former owners of the now defunct Island Boy Grille) - that also went really fast! So good!

More food - the dilis, menudo, fried chicken skin, and bread with spinach dip.

BBQ Beef, the bread with spinach dip, lumpia and brownies.

Here are more desserts - I made the lemon creamcheese bars and the blueberry turnovers next to it.. Someone brought a red velvet bund cake, plus an assorted cookie platter, a bowl of chocolate dipped pretzel and cereal bites (those were good - salty and sweet!), Filipino style fruit salad (canned fruit cocktail with cream and young coconut strings and nata de coco) and a big container of kutsinta (brown sugar rice cake with grated coconut).

A few of the teens wore ugly sweaters as well. This guy got this nice striped Shaker knit sweater from his grandpa's closet. His girlfriend was wearing a really horrendous red Christmas sweater with 3D snowmen and snowflakes. Another family brought a trash bagful of ugly 80's sweaters from her father's closet. Many of the teenagers swarmed the bag and happily wore the discarded clothes of a Lolo. Apparently, he didn't like the sweaters back then either; they were mostly given as gifts. Being a hoarding and thrifty old Filipino dude, he never threw them away. Little did he know his sweaters would get resurrected at parties like these!

Until next year! I think I'll bring the healthy stuff next time!

Ooo the salt & pepper squid looks tasty! My BF doesn't eat squid though and I can't eat a whole thing by myself - maybe I'll get to try it someday.
