Oh my gosh, the Cevapcici was so good! Even though there was lamb in here, I didn't really taste it. The bread was also quite good - nice and crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. We also ordered the Bosnian Mix Plate - "One of the Most Characteristic Dishes from Bosnia. Grilled Veal and Chicken Kebab, Beef Sausage, Cevapcici (Skinless Sausages) and Pljeskavica, Served with Your Choice of Side Order. $12.70" The chicken was nothing special but the sausages were awesome! We already had the larger version of the Cevapcici in the sandwich above. The Pljeskavica was the meat patty on the left.
Their pita bread was just as good as I remembered it from Portland. This is not like the Greek style pita bread (which I find a bit dry)...This was a billowy soft pillow of heaven with a nice exterior crust. Too bad there aren't any Bosnian restaurants in San Diego. I'd be there in a heartbeat!
Hee hee - Check out the Crafty Beaver Home Center - I love their mascot! He's almost as cute as the one at the Lincoln Park Zoo.We were heading over to Andersonville....and heading to N. Clark Street. As you can see by the water tower, it is graced with the flag of Sweden, home of very hot 6' 4" men (see my photos of Alexander Skarsgard on my right side bar as a reference!)
OMG - They have a Hamburger Mary's here! They used to have one in Hillcrest, but now it is called Urban Mo's. I didn't realize Hamburger Mary's was a chain.
Also on N. Clark Street was our dessert destination. Actually our first choice, Pasticceria Natalina was closed - that's an Italian pastry shop. So, our second choice was the Swedish Bakery which was fitting since this neighborhood's main heritage was Swedish. See the yelp reviews here.
On that same street a few blocks down was the Swedish American Museum which we didn't have a chance to see. Next time, right? You could buy these butter cookies by the pound...
TC and a few other customers eyeing the sweets and making their selections...
The young lady who rang me up looked Hispanic, perhaps Mexican? I felt like I was at home.
View from across the street...before heading out to Wrigley Field.
TC picked out this cookie...You know, I'm not a fan of decorated cookies. They all taste the same to me. It's just a plain cookie with loads of icing on it. Same old same old, but she was amused by the cow...She used her own money for this anyways.
A puff pastry "butterfly":
Yes, no refrigeration was needed. We ended up eating this within a couple of hours...
Our pastries - from the top 1) Swedish Cannoli - sweetened cream cheese with orange peel center in a cannoli shell decorated with chocolate chips, 2) Pistachio Florentina - an almond lace cookie that is curled and filled with pistachio buttercream, 3) some sort of almond cream filled puff, 4), the "Pink Triangle"petit four (an obvious nod to their gay clientele and local residents) which had a raspberry layer, and lastly, 5) the Toska Bitar - which consists of a shortbread base with almond cake, almond filling, topped with sliced caramelized almonds, which is partially dipped in chocolate!
How does all that look?
