Asia Cafe with HotFudge and Lotus

Update on 7/16 - Finally learned to post pictures...included here....

(this part was written on 7/15) Ugh it was so hot and gross today! I still haven't learned how to post pictures but once I do, there will be a shitload of them on here. But none of me. Thank goodness. Enjoyed lunch this past Wednesday with HotFudge and Lotus. Ronin dropped off HotFudge at my place that morning. We went to KMart to get a backpack for TC (who was also with us). She chose a pink Supergirl backback (plus it comes with a tiny little purse! so cute!), then went to Mission Valley to look at furniture. We then had lunch at Asia Cafe (Laotian food joint on 47th and Market - see my April blog) and met up with Lotus.

Our meal: Appetizers - Fried spring rolls served with dipping sauce, lettuce leaves, mint, and cilantro ( see below). We also had chicken curry satay served with a peanut dipping sauce (this was for TC). Also ordered was Sticky Rice served in a steamer basket. TC enjoyed eating this with her hands, covering her thumb with a "rice helmet" at one point.
Nem Khao - crunchy and spicy Laotian fried rice with garlic, green onions and sour pork sausage (the photo came out too blurry thus it is not posted).

HotFudge's entree - steamed rice with BBQ pork chop (Laotian style), served with sliced cucumber, tomatoes and carrots. This was everyone's favorite. It tasted better than a version sampled at Pho Hoa Calli in Mira Mesa.

My entree - Seen Nam Toke which is a seasoned and marinated steak cut into strips and served with a fish-based dipping sauce and cilantro.
Lotus's entree - Pork Larb - minced and spiced pork with herbs. The chilis made my lips numb. There was a sourness to this dish due to the lime juice. I just didn't like the flavor and neither did anyone, it seemed. It was not boxed to go.

Verdict - Everything was pretty good except for the Pork Larb. We ended up eating mostly everything else. Good ethnic food in the hood. Sometimes the best places to go are those places that we call "hole in the wall".

HotFudge has been sharing her extensive knowledge of the various furniture places around San Diego. Bert and I need a new bedroom set. It's the same one since 1995. Thanks HotFudge for showing me around Legends and Lawrence (yikes! expensive, that second store was) in Hillcrest. Thanks again! It's nice getting another person's opinion and expertise. : )

More later.
