Bert and I originally intended to go to a different coffee shop in Logan Heights first.
However, since it was closed, we went to Virtuoso instead...
We noticed that their training room was almost finished; the drywall wasn't up yet several months earlier.
This is what we were here for...
Our favorite gals were there...the one with the mermaid hair and MaryJhun (she is a talented artist whose paintings grace the coffee shop itself)...
The mocha flight is served on a small board with four perfect spots for the glasses.
We didn't ask for any milk substitutions. We wanted to taste each of these on their own with whole milk which also looks nicer in terms of latte art.
All of the mochas were really well made and distinct. I wasn't sure if I'd like the Mexican mocha since I'm not much of a fan of cinnamon but the taste was very subtle. The white mocha was also quite nice and smooth. I surprised myself since I normally don't go for white chocolate anything. Bert's favorite was the Peruvian (I had the mini 8 oz. version a few months prior) while I leaned towards the Dark mocha.
Great presentation but most of all, excellent and well made drinks. Plus, Cafe Virtuoso is one of the few local roasters using organic beans.
As mentioned earlier, our original intent was Imperial Grounds. Now we were back.
I noticed a bottled of MCT oil on their shelf; that's an ingredient that some places use in a style called bulletproof coffee.
While waiting for our drinks to be made, we asked if we could look around next door at Ms. Vintage, the boutique the the owner's wife runs. She wasn't there yet but he said we could go in. I ended up buying a blouse there, one of my few purchases on Black Friday.
The decor and items for sale were so groovy!
Below our drinks - Bert's macchiato (in the paper cup), my pink peppermint mocha plus a chocolate chip scone. The mocha didn't look pink; it was one of the few times I allowed whipped cream to be on top of one of my drinks.
Here is the blouse that I bought at Ms. Vintage - it's made in Mexico and featured embroidered gold birds. The other purchases were made the night before at the Paradise Hills Night Market (which the post is forthcoming) - "The Origins of Bunny Kitty" book by Dave Persue plus a rare pair of black Bunny Kitty earrings (they were made in 2007 and being liquidated by Persue himself for $5) The pendant features a sprig of yellow flowers; this pendant necklace was made by MaryJhun Dandan (an artist and barista); also bought at the Paradise Hills Night Market.
This was a great treat to enjoy on "Black Friday"...which we did NOT spend at a mall or looking for "bargains" left and right. The blouse was full price, $48; the book was $15 and the earrings were only $5. There were three different versions but I bought the last pair on display.
