The West Bean Coffee Roasters, Bankers Hill

Last Friday was my coffee and breakfast date with D...

with an added person...

turns out that Bert had the day off.  Sadly, D tore her meniscus and because of the pain, asked if Bert could drive...

her NEW car, which was a Lexus.

Which of course, he readily agreed to.

Let's put it this way...now that he's experienced driving a really nice car, hmmm.

But hey, we were up quite early, as in 7 am early. Taskmaster me, plus D had to interview someone later that morning and had to get back on campus.


The West Bean opened up a new location uptown in Bankers Hill. This is the corner of 4th and Laurel It's the Mr. A's building.

Both Bert and I had been to their other locations and wanted to check out the newest one.


This is the largest location of West Bean with has lots of seating. Much more breathing room here than in the downtown location.



Pastries were from Bread & Cie in Hillcrest. Several pastries were ordered with our coffees. At the last minute I ordered a breakfast sandwich for us to share.  By the way, this was breakfast #1.

Cortado for me.

Peppermint mocha for Bert.

House coffee for D plus a chocolate croissant (an almond one was ordered later for D), a blackberry banana muffin plus the breakfast sandwich (cheddar, egg and sausage on a brioche bun) which Bert later cut into thirds.  Him not me because I mangle things.

Sausage was extra. I splurged today.  Merry Christmas yo. Plus lemon chive aioli.

Pastries were really good. We saved the chocolate one for our daughter. I liked the blackberry/banana combo which had a nice sugar crystal crust.

The sandwich did not look very remarkable but it was pretty good, especially with that sauce.  You are paying Uptown prices here.  It was light, crisp and not too heavy, since it was shared between three.

Folks working here are really nice.  One of the owners came out and seemed to recognize Bert. If he did, I'm impressed because it's been a good two years since we visited the downtown location. If he was faking it, well he was pretty friendly then. No worries it's all good.

By the way, if you use their bathroom key, make sure the door you go out of isn't locked (the bathoom is in a hallway outside). I couldn't get back in and had to go out through another exit and come back in from the front. The girl who lent me the key did not unlock the door after I asked her if this was common practice. You know, you expect to get back in the same way, eh.

Bottom line, drinks are great here as they are in their other locations. Their cortado was perfect - the ratio of espresso to milk that I like. Plus their mocha was nice and rich (better with almond milk too). Glad we stopped by but it was time to get going to stop #2...
