and for dessert, tried this new ice cream place in National City...
Antojate means "to have a craving" or "to fancy". The ice cream shop is owned by a really nice Mexican family, a lady and her twin daughters. It's right next to Carnival market and across the street from the original (and the best) Valerio's Bakery in National City.

It's very pink inside and cheerful.

They have a lot of great flavors, including ube which impressed me, since this was not Filipino or Asian owned. I like the diversity in flavors, from tried and true favorites to those that would please Mexican and Filipino palates.

I was excited to see gansito (it's a type of Mexican snackcake - like a strawberry filled and chocolate dipped Twinkie) and mamey.

We were offered to try flavors we were interested in...I decided on gansito.

TC's watermelon with gummy worms (sigh, teens) and the boyfriend's cookie monster:

Bert's queso fresa (strawberry cheesecake) and my gansito:

Small scoop but still more affordable than Cold Stone and Niederfrank's (haha, I was about to type Niedermayer). It's nice to have another option for housemade ice cream, and especially by a local family.
