ABC Music Humpday Videos - "C" is for the Cult

Oh hell to the fkg yeah!

"She Sells Sanctuary" came out when I was still in high school. Formed in the early 80's in England, The Cult were considered a post punk band but their sound was described as "neo-psychedelic metal revivalist". I was immediately attracted to their sound and image. The Cult were pretty hard hitting band with an awesome guitarist (Billy Duffy) and a killer vocalist (Ian Astbury) who seemed to be channeling the ghost of Jim Morrison.

The last concert I attended back in 1992 was the Cult at the Sports Arena with opening band, Kingdom Come (a wanna be Led Zeppelin ripoff) and Bonham (definitely a Zep sound alike since their drummer Jason Bonham was the son of the one and only late drummer of Led Zeppelin, John "Bonzo" Bonham).

Anyone that's ever received a mixed tape or shall I say CD from me will find this song on my many compilations. It's that good.

End of story.

AHHHHHHHHHHH! I was in love with The Cult when I was younger!!! I had their music on CASSETTE! Way back before CDs were around! I remember my Mom almost crying because she thought I was listening to Satan's music! LOL!

hi c - yes, the Cult was awesome!

actually, the cult was pretty tame compared to some of the other shit i was listening to. i'm glad my parents never told me to burn my ozzy osbourne, judas priest, iron maiden, and black sabbath tapes! i love ian astbury's stage presence. kind of like jim morrison and michael hutchence rolled into one.

cd's were expensive back then so i mostly bought cassette tapes or lp's...

I think my Mom just freaked because the name of the band was The Cult! LOL! I used to listen to Metallica, Stone Temple Pilots, Iron Maiden, Skid Row, etc. I listened to basically everything. My Mom used to say, "The music you kids listen to is not like what we grew up with. Our music as so nice. You know, the Bee Gees, the Mamas and the Papas, the Beatles..." LOL! I listened to them too. Like I said, I listened to a wide variety of music. My Mom's so funny. To this day, she still INSISTS that the music of her time was "better" than the stuff that came out when I was a teenager.

well, i'm really glad my parents didn't really listen to all the shit i listened to...seriously. i listened to a lot of really aggressive stuff.

my mom was into elvis, patti page, englebert humperdinck (ha ha - we used to say 'hump my dick'), and oh yes, TOM JONES. throw your panties on stage now!
